Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) on X Kaapo Kakko suffered a significant lower-body injury last night, but it could have been worse. It’s not believed to be season-ending for the #NYR forward.

Earlier news but I didn’t see it posted here. Great news for Kakko.

Looked like at minimum a leg break the way his leg dangled there while he tried to hold it up, great news that it’s not as serious as it looked. I’m guessing he will be back maybe for the last 20-10 games of the season and playoffs

“Significant lower body injury”. Lol. Imagine Walter Cronkite reporting in 1963 that “JFK suffered a severe upper body injury in Dallas”.

This news is better than what I was expecting to hear about his leg.

If its not season ending could it be a bad sprain? I cant imagine his leg isn’t severely damaged after seeing how it bent.

Hoping its somehow a meniscus tear. I’ve fallen the exact same way playing and thought I destroyed my knee, somehow only tore it and flipped a part of my meniscus and was able to play a month or two later after surgery

  6. The NHL really needs to normalize making injury reports more like the NFL this is so fucking vague

With all the gambling now I’m kinda shocked the nhl doesn’t force more specificity. I mean look at the nfl. Teams are getting in trouble for not disclosing injuries before a game now.

Yet if Austin Matthew’s had Kakko’s injury and it just said “major lower body injury but not season ending” I mean…that impacts a ton of potential betting. Like the odds for the leafs to make the playoffs. Over unders etc.

I really don’t bet and this is all a major reason why

  8. Was at the game, ugh, he was down like a sack and didn’t respond with any leg movement at all, compared to other injuries seen. Thankfully, it is not a threatening as it looked. LFGR.
