Is the Montreal/local media as optimistic about a playoff push?

I live out West so it’s all about the Oilers. The sense of optimism is nauseating, and rarely are they critical of their team. As Montrealers do you guys feel the media treats them fairly?

Lol the media in Montreal is consistently more negative about the team. Even in much better years.

We dont have a McDavid/Draisaitl combo to pull a whole team like they do

But I believe EDM making playoff would be surprising

  4. Are you asking if we think the media treats the Oilers fairly? Cause this is the Habs sub.

  5. If my team had McDavid, I’d be constantly optimistic. In his last six periods, he has 8 points. Only 6 Habs have more than 8 points all season. The fanbase and media have been hard on him for a slow start, but he has 25 points. 8 more than the Habs leader.

If there is any player that can drag that team to the playoffs, it’s him. Oh, also, having Draisaitl probably helps the optimism as well.

All hockey media is negative when the team isn’t doing well. Hell, it’s negative when the team IS doing well.
But at least in the Oilers case, they have a reason to be optimistic. The best player in the world can do wonders for hope.

  6. In the last 2-3 years, the fans and media are mostly positive, everyone has accepted that we don’t have a good team and that it will take some years before we are ready to contend for a Stanley cup

If you’re asking whether Montreal media thinks the Oilers will make the playoffs, I think the answer is a cautious yes.

I was listening to tellement hockey last week and they said that the relative weakness of the West combined with a return to form from the Oilers should have them in. The team is underperforming and the field is open around them.

They were discussing it also in the context of trading for a goalie, saying that they would’ve won many more games with average performances which they didn’t get so far.

I 100% believe that the Habs have a solid chance of making the playoffs… IF McDavid scores 100+ pts for us.

Overall, id say the media seems to be pretty aware of what this team is, and covers them accordingly..

Nahh we’re done lol. If a miracle happens though, I hope that Dach will be ready

Once our superduperstars Josh Anderson and Joel Armia get going, this league is in so much trouble. McWho?

This is a loaded question. It’s realistic (and optimistic) about Edmonton. The same statement made about us would be absurd – not optimistic.
