I’m not sure why Kaner chose Detroit. They are weak in goal and some other spots. Florida would have been a better team if he wanted to win another time.
I really don't see the downside here. If we are in contention at the trade deadline, he could be a big part of why we are there, and could help us to actually do something in the playoffs once we get there.
If we fall out of contention before then, there is still a good chance that a contending team would give us a few future draft picks for him.
