I think the Leafs are purposely wanting to play in overtime shoot out for the extra goal potential on their record. This is how the collect so many points for the end of the year. Good or bad, at least it's a win and they build a better stat for themselves.
This is why I say they need to change the point system.
3 points for a win in regular play
2 points for a win in OT
1 point for loss in OT
This will encourage a win in regular play or display the difference of teams actually winning regular play game vs OT.
Regarding trades like Zadarnov. The Leafs need to remember Nylander is due for contract, then Marner. Something I haven't heard, Woll. Woll is earns less than $800,000 and expires in 2 years. The Leafs will need to decide to keep Samsonov or not. Otherwise there is no cap space for this team to stay together. Even if Tavares takes a 50% cut, there won't be cap space. If this 4 core breaks I don't think Matthews can carry this team. Knives will have to rise or the boat (team) will sink.

IF you like Benoit you are blind. On the game tying goal Benoit follows the SEA player into the corner and then skates away for no reason, leaving room for the player to turn around and make a pass to McCann for the goal. Benoit is SOFT. hes a Marlie.

Lagesson and Benoit are playing 14 and 13 minutes a night according to hockey ref. i dunno what jd sees in them. I get they aren't total trainwrecks, but let's keep it 100 they aren't top 6 guys. sam is right on that.
tho JD has a point that the leafs need better than zadorov. i guess he means that it's better to go for a top guy and push people down a pair. i dunno, kinda confused on his point about the third pair
The leafs obviously have issue holding leads and defending, of course. But I really think this regulation wins thing speaks to the parity in the league. Almost every team can hang, they have guys who can score etc etc. Overall I think this is good for the NHL. Competitive games all over. Look at the D core for the leafs right now, a bunch of injuries, Klingberg was a flop (also injured). What do we expect really? Obviously I'd LOVE to see the leafs just dominate from start to finish, but lets take a step back and be realistic. Also the fact that the team has consistently found a way to win in OT or the shootout is a positive. Next goal wins essentially and the boys get it done more than not. Yes they can and should be better, but this isnt the end of the world. Lots of positives to be taken away they way I see it.
