Having said that since Lindy would never have played Nemec unless he had absolutely no other option I’ll gladly accept a 2-game timeout for Smith and hope the young lad takes hold of a spot and refuses to ever give it back.

George Parros as head of player safety makes about as much sense as Cam Janssen as your skills coach. At least they’re more active with the suspensions this season but the inconsistency is nuts.

NHL refereeing is very inconsistent. I can’t say that it’s just that Smith deserves more of a punishment than Konecny. If there was no cross check there would have been no slash. Smith reacted out of pain and was protecting himself. This will just encourage players to act dirty first. The correct punishment imo would have been identical for both players.

Just wait two weeks and some player on the kings is going to have a meeting with DOPS for the exact kind of cross check TK did (after the whistle, after chasing a player to his bench, in the small of his back) and that player is going to get a 2 game suspension.
I’d bet money that if Smith would’ve fallen onto the ice/into the boards from that crosscheck, the DOPS would be paying attention to the same 10 second clip but a different player.
