NHL DOPS: Devils’ Smith Suspended, Flyers’ Konecny Fined for Altercation

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety was doing double-duty on this play, handing out supplemental discipline to both participants in an altercation. Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny has been fined $5000 and New Jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith has been suspended two games for their dueling stickwork.

  1. to summarize the nhl is very inconsistent you can swing your stick at a players head (trouba) and only get 5k fine but swing at someones arm get 2 game suspension

  2. I call BULLSNOT!
Everything you said about the slash that critiques and criticizes the slash can also be said about the crosscheck. If you suspend one, then suspend them both! (I dislike both teams so please, no fandom responses).

  3. Hmmm – But Trouba gets a fine for sending the guts head into orbit? 😂 Wow love the consistency. And don’t give me the he was “off balance” line.

  4. :37 this is not a hockey play… dude, tell me how sneakily cross-checking someone's arm after the whistle is a hockey play?

  5. This is hockey not fucking soccer man, this shit happens all the time. Just give a cross checking and slashing penalties and be done with it

  6. So…. the lesson here is if you want to injure your opponent, be the instigator because the retaliation will get punished worse than the instigator.
    Solid reasoning, NHL.

  7. So now hockey is like elementary school? If you get attacked you can't fight back? Was Konecny supposed to run to Buttman and tell him that someone pushed him in the hall? Pure BS.
