  1. Break a player’s cervical vertebrae with a cheap hit from behind and get nothing. Do something non-violent off the ice and get 41 games.

Pretty much shows what the NHL’s prioritization of player safety is.

It’s impossible to believe, with all the ways to bet on games, spreads, even individual plays, that players, front office, and league personnel aren’t betting.

  2. I suspect Pinto will just be the early iceberg in regards to the disturbing affair between the NHL and the commercial colossus of online betting. I fully expect temptation and ruin to get MUCH worse.

  3. Bouchard should learn from PK Subban in his early stages of his career BUT Evan can be better defensively he just needs to MATURE his game more. BE MORE RESPONSIBLE IN YOUR OWN ZONE.🏒

  4. First round picks take time because there are potential trades. If it was only drafts, fine, speed it up. But with trades involved GMs need time to talk.

  5. Insane that illegal hits that lead to injuries get a slap on the wrist but gambling on a game someone isn’t even playing in gets half a season

  6. With the Pinto situation, it isn’t whether he bets on games that he’s playing in, it’s the fact that if you get in too deep of debt to bookies, they will start asking you to do things to sway the outcome of games that you’re in. One player can’t possibly do that you say? If you’re asked to injure an opposing star player, that would have a long term effect on that team, and that might be profitable for the bookies

  7. I doubt Mark Chipman owns the jets in order to turn a profit. One of (if not the) richest owners in the NHL most likely wants them as a passion project.

  8. A decentralized draft may be an issue for trades actually happening on the day, and the pageantry of those trades (Think Burke trading for the Sedins, as one example). They'll have to add more pomp and glitter if they go the NFL route, as the NBA draft is a snoozefest.

  9. So for those who dont know the pandemic DID affect the job sector more in the Prarie provinces so Im not surprised that even with low prices Winnipeg cant sell out. It's literally for a lot of Canadians one person goes to a hockey game vs put food on the table for my family that week. I know that sounds drastic to Americans esp but our dollar is so bad right now and with the war in Ukraine its causing bread prices to absolutely sky rocket. that plus unlike our american neighbours esp in the southern US we also have to deal with sky rocketing heating costs. we dont have the option to not pay a heating bill because we'll freeze to death otherwise.

  10. heck make a rule where if ur trading ur draft pick up etc u have to have that info to the NHL BEFORE Draft day. So lets say the 15 Pittsburgh Penguins trade with the 7 pick San Jose Sharks (just pulling two teams out my arse) that trade has to be given to Bettman BEFORE the draft so that they can say "the draft pick has been traded." I feel like draft day trading is causing it to go on FOREVER. I remember watching the draft once and the first ten picks took an HOUR to get through. For me I Just want to see who my team (the Leafs pick) and then I couldnt really be bothered to watch the whole thing.

  11. NHL gave Pinto 41 games, cause he didn't use one of the NHLs official betting sites 😂
Seriously you'll take fans money on a bet, but if a player who's well off does it it's a big no-no.

  12. A reminder… David Thompson is one of the Jets owners, and he has more money than nearly every other owner combined. Winnipeg has nothing to worry about.

  13. I agree the 1st round time needs to be shortened, but the NHL Draft is and annual occasion where the fans get to see who the possible next star is going to be for their team. It's been this way for a long time and there are a lot of fans that are going to be upset it's gone.

  14. The NHL is pushing gambling, maybe, just maybe, Gambling shouldn't be advertised so heavily. It literally ruins lives. Its basically like advertising cigarettes.

  15. Beyond stupid how there were talks of relocation for the Jets. Even at 1/3 capacity they still have more fans in the building than Arizona. And somehow Arizona is the one that needs to be kept there at all costs. If the Jets owner doesn't want the team then there are literally dozens of billionaires that will buy it and take it off his hands. Ottawa just proved that.

  16. I don´t get why wpg fans are so … they got a great team right now, if they stay healthy they are an outsider.

  17. so the nhl has gone pretty goofy. We just suspend people and give no reason. Secret suspensions….
he might have done something we disagree with. ok, then suspend the whole Vega team for those stupid shiny helmets

  18. The Centralized draft allows fans to get to know players. That connection causes people to watch more hockey, and the sport grows. Losing this day is a step backwards.

  19. Vancouver (in your example) also has the benefit of being a corporate and city with a lot of wealth in it. Winnipeg? Not really. A bad economic situation plus high prices plus it being a blue collar city? Look, I'm in Atlanta. As much as I'd love to see the old team return, I'd just as much prefer to see that team stay there and succeed. If the losses pile up, then as a business, TNSE will do what it has to do. But I don't like relocation, and I didn't like it in 1996 when the first Jets moved either.

  20. It would be interesting to see which 6/7 teams voted to keep the draft as is. Even though the reasoning is to save money, which you would think would benefit small market teams, I see the small market teams voting to keep it as is. I would think the small market teams see the draft as a blessing. The exposure to players, management, social media teams I see around the draft really draws my interest to teams I don't see or hear on a daily basis. Large market teams don't need that exposure.

  21. I was at the 2023 draft. It was probably a top 20 event in my life. I can’t overstate how fun it was to talk with other hockey fans from around the continent about their teams. Having everyone who’s anyone in hockey management together in the same room is surreal. It makes money for the host city and differentiates the league.

So obviously, given the NHL has a good thing that the fans like, they inevitably decide to destroy it to be more like the NFL.

  22. Yeah the draft is ridiculous, it seems like they purposely sit there for 3 minutes, already knowing who they are going to take but just wasting time intentionally for no reason.

  23. I didn't know about the Pinto story, and just saw the number of games suspended and was thinking hoy shit, the league is finally getting serious about head hits or something like that.

But no…….of course its not that………
