Who Is the New York Islanders Most Improved Player So Far This Season?

The New York Islanders got two pieces of good news about Mathew Barzal. We discuss that and congratulate him on his accomplishment that was announced on Monday.

We also open up a debate to you: who is the Isles most improved player this season? The two biggest candidates are Simon Holmstrom and Noah Dobson but feel free to vote for anyone on our YouTube page or via email.

And we preview tonight’s home game against the San Jose Sharks, a game the Isles should win but can’t take lightly.

  1. Holmstrom, i like most doubted his playing on the top line. 6 goals in 50 games last season, 7 goals in 22 games this season, currently tied for 2nd most goals on the team. someone saw that potential, hope he continues to prove us all wrong.

  2. Sorry I missed the show!
    How ya doing Gil!?
So, from what I read, cap going up $4.2 mil!

Combine that with clutter, martin and a couple others I guess being let walk I imagine they will have over $10 mil free next year easily!

  3. I feel for them to need all hands on deck against the sharks, that would be worrisome despite how the sharks played against the rags!

  4. Dobson. The key d man who runs improved pp. Gets minutes. Outside of goal very important position as top d man now. Seemed jittery last season has settled down. Could lead isles in scoring. Potvin/streit only isle d men to do that.
Holmstrom? Showing that potential now. Need to see a full season 25-30 goals. Power forward types take longer to develop. Is that true scoring touch there? And when you produce teams notice you. Still 0 a. Tied for nhl lead with 3 shg. If 10's name comes up in trade talk could sell high on that 'potential' in trade for that big scorer? Not like isles have a lot to offer in trade.

  5. Brock Nelson is Islanders Best Current Player. Dobson I'd say is Most Improved as plays over 20 or 30 minutes a game while only Star on Roster or Potential to Be 1st Pair or 2nd at worse. Can always put him on the PP as well. After him I'm going to say Holmstrom because he has several SHGs. Though a Top D especially a RHD is Vastly More Important where can't hide on 3rd or 4th line. If your playing an average of 25 minutes compared to a guy at around 13 its clear who is better. I think he was the 11th Overall Pick or somebody they took before Dobson. Its odd how many of my Favorite Players are picked 11th like Jeff Carter or Jeff Friesen. I'm probalby only person who has a Real Sharks 39 jersey of him. Most only know him from Devils winning Cup wearing like 21 or something there. Jay Pandolfo was 20 I'm pretty sure on NJ ;).

  6. MOST improved is a tough call between Dobson and Holmstrom, but Varly should be in the mix too.
Holmstrom was always good defensively (His D is why Trotz liked him) and he's getting better. Now he's showing offense too, but going from near zero to 'showing life' is just a small start.
Varly hasn't had a bad game and he's improved every goalie stat over last year.
Dobson has been a beast, and he's also improved every stat as a defenseman. His time on ice says a lot.
I vote Dobson, with Varly a close 2nd.

  7. Good morning team. Gil, thank you for another great show. I'm going to have to agree with the majority and say Holmstrom. He is certainly fun to watch. Hopefully he can stay healthy and keep getting better. Thank you for what you do. Big 2 points out there waiting to be taken tonight. See you all tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
