Doesn't really change anything as the leftover salary owed was already showing in the cap space. But he won't be back so that makes it a bit easier to do something. Klingberg has already earned about 25 percent of his contract so it is a cap relief closer to $3. Million.

Re: Klingberg: he was never "the answer" for the Leafs. I suspect he'll be gone before next season if he can recover in a timely manner.

What a scam move by the Leafs. This has been a long-term problem for Klingberg…*not* a newly-occurring injury. GUARANTEED if he'd been playing well they wouldn't have encouraged him to have the surgery, and he'd have played the entire year with it. This is just a slimy way to correct their mistake and recover the poorly spent cap space. Shades of Joffrey Lupul.
