Tage Thompson: “We’ve talked about being too easy to play against and that right there, they didn’t get anything for free. They had to earn every inch out there and that’s going to have to continue moving forward.”

Last season the Panthers struggled to adjust to Maurice‘s defensively responsible system in his first year as their coach. The first half of the season was pretty awful and it nearly cost them the playoffs, but once they consistently put it all together they never looked back. The Sabres are in a similar spot expect they don’t have near as high of a baseline to work with (another comp is how it took Tortorella a season for his team to execute his system). So far they’ve had four or five games where they won by playing complete 200 ft hockey (last season they had like one or two games of these games). As you’re all aware, the problem has been consistency. They will play a great game like they did against the Rangers and then follow it up with some pretty dire hockey. Hopefully this is the start of them putting everything together as they really need to go on a run here.
