Nice interview … Makes sense, given his big role with the Blues, that he'd want to be the go-to big minutes guy–averaging 20 mins/game with the Preds–which likely would not have been the case with the Leafs. Can't blame him for that. And bonus, doesn't have to spend 20 minutes after every practice talking to media guys asking the same question countless times 😆
Who cares, he's slow as, he played hard for one game and never once bodychecked anyone. I was very disapointed. See, he's happy playing on a team that isnt even in a playoff spot. Im not going to miss him "and such". But I dont blame him for taking the money though.

I think he's just giving us polite hockey-marketing-speak. "I wanted a bigger role" = "I want to break up, but it's not you, it's me".
I feel like he spent a year there, and witnessed upclose the obvious season and playoffs dysfunction we've all been watching for years. Players playing only when they feel like it. No accountability. Unemotional Captain Quiet setting the 'Don't care much" tone. Team not sticking up for each other, not caring about each other. Team poorly constructed with 1/2 the salary cap on 4 players, a few middle guys, and lots of minimum salary guys.
My guess is Ryan O'Rielly looked at all that, came to the conclusion this was not a Cup contender so what was the point? and moved on the second he could. It's not you Leafs, it's me. You're a true gentleman. Ryan.
