The craziest thing that stands out to me is that the leafs are in third with 2 less games played than Detroit,Florida, Boston and 5 less games played than Tampa 😳 Wild

No wonder Coochierov has so many more goddamn points than everybody.

I really thought Buffalo was going to make some moves up the standings this year

  3. Prestigious_Union_50

And we still bitch and complain 🤷😆

Yeah, team has holes…but buriable mistakes (made clear from the get-go with the Klinberg and Reaves contracts).

I’m hoping the early season adversity leads to some more resiliency and sounder, flexible tactics come playoff time.

Leafs win both games and we’re 1 point behind Boston, what the actual fuck? It felt like for so long of this season so far that Boston was miles ahead but they’re within reach

I 10000% this year is going to come right down to game 82, that whoever wins/loses game 82 is going to determine who you play in the first round and even who is making or missing the playoffs

Avoiding regulation losses should be celebrated. On pace for 20.5 regulation losses. The fewest in an 82-game season was last season (21) next fewest 2003-04 (23). Surprisingly enough, those are the last two seasons we have won a playoff round in. Keep not losing in regulation!

That’s why I like the ‘games back’ standings format of baseball – it gives the relative performance levels of the teams regardless of the number of games played. Though I guess it wouldn’t work in a league where one point is earned with a regulation tie.

  7. They’ll play 6 games in 10 days… so that’s not too good.

  8. VerySneakyPenguins

I find it a bit crazy we are only 2 games behind most teams. With the Swedish games and the other almost week long break.

Real standings, excluding OTL points and treating SOs as ties (playoff rules)

    Team: regulation/OT wins – regulation/OT losses – SO wins/losses

    BOS: 17-8-1 – 35pts

    FLA: 16-9-1 – 33pts

    DET: 14-12-0 – 28pts

    TB: 13-16-0 – 26pts

    TOR: 10-9-5 – 25pts

On top of that, they aren’t really playing well and seem to be outplayed most games. If they can make a few trades, bolster the defense, they can become a force.

  11. games in hand don’t mean anything unless you win them. great opportunity for our group

  12. goooooooooooooogly

Scroll to the right and look at the GF/GA.

  13. Doesn’t matter. It’s a rule that we will play TB in first round.

  14. Long ways to go. I don’t usually look at standings until after the allstar break. I dunno why.

  15. The team D is still extremely concerning and I don’t think the return of Lily and Gio really significantly changes that, however the team does seem to be finally gelling. With an added top 4 D this team will be dangerous.

Domi has been a fantastic addition and the emergence of Robertson and proper deployment of Jarn has made the third line dangerous. Bertuzzi has been better than the first 10 but I’m still struggling to come around on him, I’m hoping he can continue to improve, and yes I’m aware his advanced stats are great his actual play has been pretty mediocre, I expect him to keep getting better.

Klingberg and Reaves were obvious misses before the ink dried and have performed as such but c’est la vie I guess. Despite his decent 2 games in a row I still would prefer him sat and a real upgrade added to the fourth line if possible. Klingbergs injury has slammed open the door for a real top 4 D addition and I hope the move happens sooner rather than later so the new guy can get acclimated here.

Despite everyone downplaying the lack of regulation Ws I do still think it’s an issue but they have seemingly picked it up lately. Hope that continues.

All in all things are looking up after a very underwhelming first quarter of the season. Never thought the playoffs were in doubt but I did seriously question the team makeup this year more than past seasons. Good to see improvement.

It’s absurd that after the start the bruins had, they’re catchable. Tampa Bay rays season hopefully for the bruins

I think it’s also quite notable how damn strong the Atlantic is.

There’s one team who is worse than .500. And they recently got back arguably their best player.

The same can’t be said for many divisions in the NHL this season

  18. Crazy thought: Maybe Sheldon Keefe knows what he’s doing

  19. AND Auston Matthews is second in league scoring with 3-4 games in hand of Boeser and Kucherov.

I’m a leaf fan. Too bad they always shit the bed. Year after year. I’ve stopped watching just cuz they always blow it. I’m sick of it. I predict that they will do the same again this year. And next year and the year after that etc…. I’m not trying to be negative or a hater but that’s the reality

This fanbase is way way too hard on this team.

Oh no we won the game in overtime instead of regulation, this team cant finish games, theyre not dominant enough.

Oh no our defence isnt holding up and we have way too many giveaways. Nevermind that were down 4 defenders and are playing our 9th and 10th d man out there.

If a player has a good game its “well lets see him do it in the playoffs”.

If a player has a bad game its “what is this team doing we cant win with this team”.

Matthews scores 2 “thats what you expect when you pay him the money hes paid”. Because every player thats paid over 10 mil is flawless in every single game.

“The fanbase is traumatized, we’ve won 1 round in X years”. Yes and last year that number was 0.

“Regular season doesnt matter” when it’s going good.

And my favorite ” the top players take up too much cap, we cant win with this core” after every single loss.

The fanbase is just spoiled. Youre watching arguably the best leafs team since at least 30 years ago. Its freaking incredible that we can ice Matthews, Marner, Willy AND JT. If other teams have a chance to keep 4 stars, they would. Were not paying 5 mil for 4th liners or 6 mil for 5th/6th d men. Thats the tradeoff. A tradeoff every single team would make If they could.

I love this team, I love this roster. I want these guys to win. Not just the Logo. But this exact core.

Its hockey, its literally the most luck based big sport. One or two games in the playoffs where the puck luck doesnt go your way shouldnt be the measuring stick. An 82 game season should be the measuring stick as to if a teams good or not. Last years Panthers are not a better team than the record breaking Bruins, even tho they beat them in the playoffs.

Dont blame this team for 60 years of cup drought. Enjoy the amazing play of these stars, cherish having arguably THE best goalscorer in the NHL. Enjoy franchise records being broken every season. And when the important games come in the playoffs, just hope for the best puck luck we can get and have fun while it lasts.

How about the fact that Boston lost Bergeron, Krejci, Hall, Bertuzzi, Nosek, Orlov, Foligno and the league still can’t solve them?

    Isn’t that cool?

  23. TheDeadReagans

Our standing in the division doesn’t properly reflect the quality at which we’ve played at this year and they have played better as of late which implies that they did fix some of the leaks in their game while they were collecting points.
