On this episode of Talking Buffalo, host Patrick Moran takes some questions and comments, many of them having to do with Tyler Dunne’s scathing feature story on Buffalo Bills head coach, Sean McDermott here on “Fan Friday” or as Patrick likes to call it—-mailing in today’s show.
Dunne, creator of Go Long dropped a stunning 21,000 word, three-part series on Thursday that examined Sean McDermott in an unflattering way both as a game day head coach and on the other six days of the week as well. Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the articles, the job Tyler did putting them together and the reaction, ranging from appreciate and supportive to downright hateful.
Also, Von Miller returned to practice Thursday and by all accounts, seems like he’ll play on Sunday when the Bills travel to Kansas City for a crucial showdown with the Chiefs. Patrick’s asked about and has takes on Miller returning to the team so quickly following their bye week arrest, Ryan O’Halloran’s excellent article on the topic in The Buffalo News this past week and how the team has handled it.
He also fields questions on the NBA’s new in-season tournament, the best linebacker in Bills history, a Bills/Chiefs prediction, who Patrick would love to see as Bills head coach and plenty more.

I unload the entire toolbox of takes on the Tyler Dunne article on Sean McDermott, a series Bills fans are saying is a takedown hit piece.

When have you ever seen such a concerted effort to derail a team?
From the anonymous reports about Diggs wanting out of Buffalo, to the anonymous sources calling Pegula a racist to these anonymous sources trying to knee cap McDermott.
Fact is, if there were any semblance of truth to the BS this clown wrote, you wouldn’t see so many players re signing here on team friendly deals. You wouldn’t see so many players coming back and you wouldn’t see so many free agents coming here on the cheap to be part of this organization.
I understand you know Tyler but why now? Why not after the season?? He purposely did this to distract our players and train wreck our bills season. Stop defending him.
Also … it’s complete BS that the defense has collapsed 4 years in a row…. To even suggest that shows your absolute bias against him.
The Texans wildcard game Josh Allen has zero touchdowns passing, zero touchdowns rushing, two fumbles and a QBR of 42.5… Texans get the ball first in OT, the defense forces a punt and Allen couldn’t get the job done.
The next year… defense makes a stop on the last drive of the Colts game for the win.
Then the defense defeats the Ravens in the divisional round with a Taron Johnson 101 interception return for a TD.
Then Allen chokes in the AFC championship. 50% completion percentage… QBR 52
Allen’s only good playoff run was 2021 but he looked like garbage most of that season.
2022… Allen choked in the Miami wildcard game, 4 turnovers including a fumble return for a TD. QBR 23.3… defense won that game too.
Cincinnati divisional game? Another Allen choke.
Let’s look at this year… Denver game? Allen 1 TD, 3 turnovers and a QBR of 30.7
Patriots game? Allen has the ball on the last drive and fumbles
Jets game? 4 more turnovers, Allen gets the ball first in OT… what happened? 3 and out.
Most of the losses in big games over the last 5 years have been because Allen played like Zack Wilson. That’s just a fact. The stats don’t lie. You can’t expect the defense to play perfect the entire game and then crucify them when the come up short on a late drive… while you simultaneously suck Allen off for playing like shit.
And it is NOT just this year or last, go take a walk back down memory lane and see all the garbage performances Allen had when your buddy Dabe’s was here.
22-16 loss to the Steelers
14-10 loss to the Patriots
9-6 loss to the Jaguars
45-15 loss to the Colts
Fck outta here homie. Allen has a very high ceiling… maybe the highest ceiling of any player in the league. The problem is that his floor is also as low as any player in the league. You can’t blame the coach or the defense when your QB is playing like Zack Wilson.

I understand all the criticism and know that if constructive, it can lead to good things, but this feels like distraught fans throwing stones. This leaves me with a bad feeling. What happens when everyone calling for his head gets what they want? Then what? And why are you answering for his guy who wrote the article?

The McDermott era needs to end. Also, people need to stop crying. Larry Felser was a good personal friend of Bills owner Ralph Wilson, yet he still took on Bill Polian and Marv Levy whenever he felt they deserved it. The relationship became so dicey at one point that Larry brought his own brown paper bag lunch to the Press Box on Sundays because he refused to partake in the free half-time buffet provided by the team.
