Patrick Kane Scores and Dylan Larkin Is Hurt in Emotional Loss to the Ottawa Senators

This game doesn’t matter. The loss doesn’t matter. All that matters is the well-being of Dylan Larkin, who was knocked out after simulatneous head shots in front of the Senators net. David Perron saw red in response to the injury, laid a nasty crosscheck to the head of Artem Zub, who was not involved in the nasty play. As much as we appreciate standing up for your captain, that is not the way to do it. David Perron was kicked out, and is facing a lengthy suspension. Meanwhile the two players who hit Larkin both recieved JUST minor penalties. Did the refs handle it properly? Shortly after, Patrick Kane tied it up with his first of the Red Wings. For a brief moment, I thought the Wings were going to win. But alas, hard to do that with just 9 forwards. Hoping for a smooth recovery for Dylan Larkin. Who will Detroit call up? Previewing the Dallas Stars. #LGRW

  1. NOTE: When talking about the play between Cousins and Gudbranson, I said 'Predators' a few times. Cousins plays for the Panthers. Stupid feline teams with similar names 😫

  2. Fisher stated in his post game comments that he intentionally waited to do the retaliation fight until later in the game so as to not potentially leave the team EVEN WORSE with regards to forward numbers. I applaud him for THINKING. We all wish it could have happened sooner but the man was right. If he had done it sooner and then been ejected… things would have been worse than they were.

  3. Just going to say it. The senators have turned into a classless team lead by a classless coach and classless captain. The league will most likely punish Perron but not the ottawa players. After all it’s not mcdavid Crosby or bedard. That being said it would be nice if our tough guy were actually in the line up for the tough teams….

  4. I understand why Perron did what he did. He shouldnt have done what he did with his stick. He should have dropped his stick and popped him. Even though number 2 didnt do it. Joseph should be suspended for a few games and a serious fine. The other Ottawa player from the front should get a smaller suspension and a fine. Also i agree it should have been a 5min major for those 2 Ottawa plaers.

  5. Lalonde pulled Lyon in this game but Didnt pull Husso the game before when Husso clearly didnt have it either but worse. I looked over at my wife and SAID REALLY? Unbelievable. She totally agreed

  6. it was a minor on Larkin because he got hit from Joseph's gloves not stick, players get gloves to the head all the time. This happened because Kelly came from the other side which was accidental. Regarding Perron, he needs at least 5 games, that was pure intent to injure especially someone that was calling for the trainer. Perron was just brain dead here, very stupid move.

  7. I hope that Larkin gets better quickly. At first I thought he had something worse… for example (in soccer) Eriksen collapsed on the field with a cardiac arrest at the 2021 EM …you immediately think of that, but when the slow motion came on & you saw that luckily he "only" got a knockout, I was very relieved.
    Perron's action was absolutely stupid.
Seider and Fischer were the only ones who stepped up for Larks.
But again, Seider is the wrong man for fights. I also don't understand the people who say Seider is soft… he's just not stupid because he knows he'll get penalty minutes & in the worst case even break his hand.
    We need Kostin ! 🥊
I expect 60 full minutes of passion & will to win for the captain today!

  8. I’m tired of people saying Zub was “the wrong guy”. It’s not about the right or wrong guy. Put yourself in Perrons place…you turn around and see Larkin motionless. There’s no premeditation. You don’t even see Zub. You just see an Ottawa player, the closest one to you. And you hit him. It would have been way worse if he skated out his way and attacked an Ottawa Senator that wasn’t near him. That would show he did some thinking and selected a specific person to go after. Retaliation in the heat of the moment for something as extreme as seeing Larkin motionless is not shocking. Ottawa fans are just using Perron as a means to deflect the conversation away from Larkins injury.

  9. Aside from Larkin's heath the most important thing is getting Compher and Kostin back in the lineup to give us the best chance to win. Kane should be getting more comfortable each game and Veleno, Rasmussen and Copp need to step up. These will be a rough next two weeks regardless

  10. The Ottawa media and fandom was actually bragging the second period was Ottawas best of the season 😂 They couldn’t even connect the dots between having a good period and the fact their opponent only had 8.5 forwards. Good job Ottawa, you solved hockey. 😂

  11. In Fischers interview he said he wanted to fight earlier but they couldn’t lose another forward too early. At the time they were still in the game. Once the game was effectively lost, he fought Joseph.

  12. Like… straight up, I don't blame Kelly at all. He came in, was aiming for the midsection, and caught Larks as he was falling. I really don't blame him. Joseph? If the league won't do anything, it's time for the boys to exact revenge. The league is doing everything they possibly can to avoid doing anything about it, so the boys have to… which leads me to Perron. Look, he went after the first player he saw in white, and it just happened to be the one guy who was standing over our fallen captain. He did what he did, and come whatever may. If it's more than five games, so be it.

We've been saying for years that this team is soft, this team won't stand up for each other, that this team has no heart or desire to show some fire and go after a guy. Perron went after the wrong guy, but he went after the guy he saw standing closest to Larkin, and I absolutely commend him for that, for standing up and showing heart. I have newfound respect for a guy who'll go in and send a message — EVEN THOUGH it was to the wrong guy.

31 Jan 2024 had better be a date circled on every Wings players calendars. I don't care who it is, if it's Kostin, if Ras does something, whatever. But a message absolutely needs to be sent, otherwise everyone — especially the Tkachuk brothers — will know it's still open season on our boys.

As for Lyon being pulled, don't forget, he was also run over in the second period, and he may have been pulled for more than just having allowed four goals.

  13. My thoughts on lyon being pull is maybe it was because he was struggling a bit and you don't want him giving up 5-8 goals and ruin his confidence especially with how tired the team in front of him was going to be in the third

  14. I’m disappointed these guys spent more air time focusing on Perrons actions than Larkins incident. I got enough of the Perron analysis from Ottawa commentators and fans. Came here expecting something different but got more of the same.

  15. Wings broadcasters: “was an unfortunate accident”
Wings players: “just a fluke play”
Wings coach: “just a bad result from a hockey play”. Bottom line they were defending the front of the net. No bad intentions here. So please everyone take a deep breath and move on
