A faceoff he will never forget

Last night as the Pittsburgh Penguins played host to the Arizona Coyotes, this was a game that Pittsburgh native Logan Cooley said had been circled on his schedule since the day he got an NHL contract. Now you may have heard of Crosby’s Little Penguins Program, a program started by Crosby in 2008 during the Great Financial Crisis where Crosby came up with the idea to buy equipment that he would give out to kids free of charge just to get them introduced and started in the great game of hockey. The program has introduced roughly 13,000 kids to the game since its inception and one of those was Local Cooley! At 5 years old, the West Mifflin native attended the program in its inaugural first year saying that it was the first time he fell in love with the game and he never looked back. The 3rd overall pick of 2022 was the highest ever drafted player out of Pittsburgh and last night, making his home debut he got to play against the guy that introduced him to the game. Just a real wholesome story line coming into this one. Oh, and the Penguins FINALLY scored a powerplay goal! I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video.

  1. This is a great story. It simply shows that just by being kind, you can change the future.. Good on you Sid..

  2. This is infinitely better than the "talks" the main NHL comes out with. So much more in depth, so much more compelling

  3. Sometimes I wish hockey players weren't trained to be so boring in interviews cause that's a cool story and I would love to see how hyped Sid actually is knowing that his program helped get a kid all the way to the NHL.
Also, that reffing seemed horrendous. Not sure why someone should be rewarded for having the grip strength of an anemic child: 1:26

  4. Why did Smith not get a penalty for that hit. Is cross checking to the throat legal now. That hit could have ended a career or worse. The league needs to be held accountable if nothing is done.

  5. Your content is nearly always fantastic, sometimes just great! but loved the "sid story" beginning which demonstrates 1/ length of sid's time at the top in NHL & 2/ how nice as a ruthless professional sid is & 3/ how good an idea his youth programme was & remains. yep fair to say i loved this posting & learning about Cooley's development, Another nxt m'up screamer; many thanks.

  6. When anyone highlighting a game they ALWAYS say 3rd and final frame when its not going to overtime. Its inconsequential but in spirit its like aspoiler alert

  7. Really cool that both coaches let Cooley and Crosby take the opening face off. Must have been a special moment for both of them.
