The Dallas Stars fall to the Calgary Flames by a final score of 4-3 in overtime last night. Mason Marchment scored twice including a penalty shot goal, Joe Pavelski extended his point streak to eight games, and Thomas Harley scored his fourth goal of the season but the Stars came up short. On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey expresses how the game really never felt in hand for the Stars even when they had the lead as they we’re playing not to lose. The Flames exposed a lot of the Stars weaknesses in the season series and none more glaring than the defense. It did not help the cause with uncharacteristic plays from Miro Heiskanen, Nils Lundkvist and others, but thats what it is. Dallas was not able to create enough offense in the 2nd half of the game trying to hang on to a one goal lead while Calgary was throwing everything at Scott Wedgewood who played well. The bright spot of Mason Marchment having a bounce back season was the highlight for the Stars, it was his first multi goal night since opening night of last season in Nashville, and the first penalty shot goal for the Stars since 2019. If this is the version the Stars will get on most nights, they will be in good hands.

And Suter throwing the puck toward the net from the blue line constantly, turnover unnecessarily every time
Got a point on the road. Never a bad thing.
Also:
I am really glad to see future hall of famer Ryan Suter is playing so well this year. He gets pucks deep from the blue line every single time!
Suter is not the problem. The entire defense was suspect last night, and Miro is sitting at -5 on the season because he's -5 against the Flames the past two games. Wonder why we don't see his feet held to the fire (pun intended)? Overall we just don't match up well with Calgary (or any track meet style of team). Robertson looks painfully slow against Calgary. Hintz never got going last night, and is struggling to find his stride lately. Luckily there are plenty of teams in the league who CAN beat the Flames, so hopefully we don't have to see them in the playoffs 🙂 We were victimized by a couple of lucky goals as well, but we struggled to control the pace of the game. Possession was nothing like we showed against Winnipeg. The MachineGun line continues to make our top line look average. Go Mush! Keep up the good work.
I’m with you Joey. kadri’s stick quite literally interfered w wedgewoods glove 😆
We don’t matchup well against the Calgary flames they just seem like a team with a lot of speed. We only had two shots on goal in the second period. There are plenty of other teams that score quickly that will knock them out of the playoffs so we don’t see them again. Defensively we looked pretty weak, seemed like Calgary had the puck in the back of the net a lot. Wedgewood was doing everything that he could but to no avail. We seriously need help on the back end to bring down allowing so many goals per game. We need a tough and gritty defenseman that blocks shots creates scoring opportunities.
Calgary’s pressure was great last night.
What it was not: it was not that sort of strangling, high viscosity pressure as from the Kraken last year in the playoffs. However, it was consistent through the entire game.
Point being: the pressure was there, but it wasn’t so much that Dallas couldn’t move the puck.
They looked tired and unable to skate.
At around 10 minutes in the second period, Nils seemed to have five clearing attempts in a row that were probably the most irresponsible passes all year.
It was a handful of funky goals last night, but honestly Calgary deserved it.
There’s been a weird dichotomy between Calgary and Dallas since their stint in the playoffs. Calgary may have moved on to the second round, but it still seems like a bitter loss for them because of Jake’s performance. Every game seems like they want revenge.
