I thought a video after he scored his 1000th point was in order.

This is why I love this channel. I'm an Oilers/Pens fan, but THG reminds me I'm a HOCKEY fan. I didn't used to care about anything not Oil/Pens related. This morning I thought, 'it would be cool if THG did a Tavares video since he did accidentally score his 1000th point'.
gotta imagine he makes it to the hall, should end with roughly 1300 points, be well into top 50 all time
He is a Hall of Famer and I wouldn't rule out a return to New York IF he wins a cup with Toronto, which I believe is coming this year.
Tavares; the original Gaudreau
Guys named John seem to be bad at loyalty lol
Would the entire Leafs team have jumped on the ice if it were any other away arena? We were calling for a delay of game whistle that never happened.
Tavares had every right to leave the Islanders, and go wherever he wanted. That said, if he did want to, or plan to leave he should have manned up, told management, and let them recover some assets at the deadline. I’m no Islander fan, in fact I’m a Ranger Fan. I’d be red hot for quite a while if a star on my team lied to all involved as well.
who cares…..Pajama boy is dead to us Isles fans.
In hindsight, I would rather have drafted Victor Hedman.
As one, Islander fans are ruthless however Tavares is the ONLY Islander that will be booed consistently on the ice. He should've just been transparent and said yes I would like to leave so we could get some value from him. This is something Lou Lamorillo had to clean up that he doesn't get credit for
Sean Avery had the best opinion on Tavares leaving the Islanders and their fans reaction.
Johnny is definitely a hall of famer.
Real question is: how much do you think he gets offered on his next contract?
Tavares was the no brainer No. 1 pick. In hindsight, the Isles should have picked Hedman just like Bill Torrey chose Potvin to build his franchise around.
As an Isles fan, hate the dude not the Statistical achievement
HOF? You're kidding.
His uncle is also the greatest NLL lacrosse player of all time so those genes are incredible
Tavares = Addition By Subtraction. The Islanders got MUCH better literally immediately after he left. Meanwhile, he goes to Toronto, puts up almost the exact same amount of PPG as he had with the Islanders, plays 2nd or 3rd fiddle, becomes captain, and the overall playoff results with him in Toronto have been nearly exactly the same as his playoff results with the Islanders. Meanwhile, the Islanders wound up just 2 games and 1 game away from the Cup finals in consecutive seasons.
In modern times, this is a great case study on how you would rather spend your money. Would you rather spend 11-12 million per year on a single John Tavares, or on a combination of Bo Horvat and Semyon Varlamov? Or Noah Dobson, Pierre Engvall, and Kyle Palmieri? Because with Dobson, Engvall, and Palmieri you're actually likely to get more overall combined point production, with a better spread of talent, skill sets, and ice time, with contracts that stagger and are easier to either extend or move. Or, with Horvat and Varlamov, you're getting nearly the same point production in Horvat, with a far better chance of winning in those 30 games that your backup goalie is in. If the Islanders had signed Tavares at 11-12 million, I bet you 5 bucks that several of those players wouldn't be on the team, a team with better playoff success over the last 5 and that (as much as a lot of people can't handle it) currently has a legitimate shot at making a run at securing home ice in the playoffs this year for a round or two again.
As far as the booing is concerned, at this point for me it really is about trolling the NHL Fan Police. I can't help but find all of the outrage over it ridiculously funny. Boo away!
I could see John going back to finish his career on the Islanders. It’s gotta hurt him that he’s hated by so many down there. I think he’d look at it as an opportunity to right a wrong…..Make amends with the fans there. How ever you want to put it.
If I was a GM, I would never overpay on UFA day and hand out maximum term. I don’t care what the name of the player is. If you’re giving a guy 11 million per year at 28 years old, you have to go into it knowing that you aren’t going to get 7 years worth of that type of production out of them. It’s a physical impossibility in today’s game for players in their 30s to be capable of hanging with the young stars out there. Especially a guy like Tavares, who was always fairly slow, even as a youngster. That contract didn’t work out that great for the Leafs, especially at the time when they already had 3 great young forwards on the roster, and needed to round out their depth on D to compete for a cup. The Gaudreau contract isn’t working out that well for Columbus either. You also have to take into consideration that a UFA contract for a star player literally sets them up for life financially. It’s human nature for someone to kind of coast along, once their finances are in order. Most players have career seasons on an expiring contract, and then let off the gas a bit once they sign.
there is zero chance the isles would ever sign him.
I can’t wrap my head around that
Imagine he actually came back to the islanders 💀 how crazy and weird that would be
Definitely won’t happen but imagine that
John will most likely end up being in the top 20 NHL All time points, when its all said and done.
