Let’s have a real conversation about the Edmonton Oilers and what the rest of this NHL season means for the team, including the NHL playoffs. That and more for today’s NHL hockey video!
The oilers are a bad hockey team. They have one way to win and that’s score there problems away. Terrible goaltending, terrible defense, terrible depth, and their power play doesn’t look like it’s going to save them this year either.
Oilers will have a rollercoaster season and dicey to make the playoffs. Stop their PP, take advantage of their D corp plus iffy goaltending will be their downfall.
Time for Kenny to earn his $5 million per and get this team what it obviously needs… a legit starting goaltender. Without that, the Oilers have a snowballs chance in Hell of winning the cup.
The reason I dislike the oilers is they built the team so poorly and so incompetently handled free agent signing that unless McDavid and Draisaitl go insane they flounder. It just angers me that oilers management cant seem to find depth and goaltending for such a great duo. I don't want them to fail, but if they miss the playoffs management might actually do something to try to make a good roster.
If the Oilers don't majorly overhaul their defence, they don't have a chance at the Cup. They've lost to complete teams twice in a row in the playoffs.
As a hardcore Oilers fan, this season has been a gut punch over and over agin. I was upset when they lost to Tampa because I knew they wouldn’t show up against Florida. This team is too fragile from top to bottom. I love Skinner but he’s still the goalie of the future not the here and now. This team doesn’t win without above average goaltending.
They played well the last two games, Skinner blew the third period against Tampa, but truthfully, if Vasi wasn't unworldly Edmonton wins by a landslide, Florida got the bounces EDM couldn't bury theres, and they had some 5 alarm chances that just didn't find the back of the net. They will be fine. These two games are only tough to swallow because of their awful 2-9 start.
No, Eck. No one thinks you hate the Oilers, if anything a lot of your viewers think you nut hug them too much. It seems like you can't go two days without putting out a video on McJesus or the Oilers to the detriment of covering other far more interesting teams and stories across the league.
For example I think you've covered the Halifax Mooseheads and Arizona Coyotes more this season than you have the surprising renaissance of the L.A. Kings this year.
Instead of the Oilers you could have covered the Canucks and the second coming of Ray Bourque that is Quinn Hughes.
Hell over in the central we got the Jets finally pulling it together and alongside the Stars are just two points out of first.
But no, instead of that we get yet another Oilers video of you trying to find the silver lining in Oilers mediocrity.
Sorry to all those who somehow think the world of him, but my advice has long been to trade Evander Kane for a younger, faster winger with more playmaking skills. I watch him every game coasting up and down the ice looking for McDavid rebounds to slap in. IMO the Oilers always seem to end up a man short on goals against. Kane is currently -7 over 28 games played and most important, he leads the team with 46 penalty minutes. Many of those penalties translated into power play goals against Edmonton in games they lost. Add to this Kane's gambling addiction or what he did to the Sharks who to a man refused to take the ice with him… just saying, a dressing room with Evander Kane is where hockey teams go to die.
It must be murder being an Oilers fan. Being a leafs fan there isn't much about the team that will surprise me. But being an oilers fan must really suck right now. Especially since they are so unpredictable. They might destroy the opposition as the best player in the world goes off or they are hot garbage. It could be either or any night you just don't know. No envy from me.
Oilers gave up 13 goals over their 8 game heater. 4 of which were to Vegas. They’ve been able to run all 4 lines through most of those games. They are fully capable of taking care of business without McDavid and draisaitl. The question has always been consistency and goaltending.
Notice how they haven’t had Great goaltending since the first two years with Talbot or when they picked up Smith. They fire coaches, general managers, but they never think to fire the goalie coach.
I think they’re in playoff contention for sure. A lot of teams will be looking for trades by the end of the season and the right deal could set them up well. The oilers have what I call a good problem: they know what they need (consistent d men). This can be fixed with the right trades.
The opposite of this is a team like Pittsburg, on paper they have everything (strong forwards, solid d men, offensive d men, consistent goaltending) but they haven’t been performing well. This is not a good problem because it can’t be solved with a couple good trades.
As a fellow rangers fan it’s good to see another Toronto lover! So hyped for the game on Tuesday, was planning to see it in person but sadly the TV will have to do.
Without a goalie there is no future. This is now obvious to everyone. Skinner will not be ready to hoist the cup this year. Was surprised Holland didn’t pick Rantta off waivers.
Their win streak was just typical new coach honeymoon. They will go back to their usual BS no-defense play and start to lose again and not get into the playoffs
They're too inconsistent, I think the just miss the playoffs. They can't afford to lose more than 2 in a row for the rest of the year, that's a tough ask.
They are still definitely in the playoff race but you have to think they need to be playing above .500 to have a shot.
The team seems built to outscore their problems in a sort of throwback to the 80s, but when McDrai aren't going the team's identity and confidence kind of disappear. Apparently they have some of the top defencemen in the league based on advanced stats, but the eye test tells me that they still can't defend the slot. Just a confusing team.
The thing is, outside of McDavid and Hyman there is no offensive pairing producing goals on a ceompetitive level. Mostly thats because Draisaitl plays with wingers who underperform most of the games, like Brown, Janmark, Foegele and RNH. Drai isnt putting up the best season at all, so it all comes down to McD and Hymes, goaltending and special teams (which includes Bouch, Drai and RNH). Under these circumstances its a flipcoin whether they make the postseason, I personally think, they will achieve the postseason. But if you take the games against FLA and TB you may have realized, how important a stellar goalie would be for this team. The game against TB – switch goalies, Skinner for Tampa and we wouldmhave Vasi, I almost guarantee that would have won this game by 13-6. FLA its the same, we would have won by 8-6.
Lets be honest here, as much as McDavid finally being McDavid was a factor in their winning streak the main reason for their winning was that they finally got some quality goaltending. Skinner seems to be defined by the first ten shots of the game, when Skinner starts off well he plays well but when a team can pop two or three on him in the first ten shots look out because Skinner has more holes than a teenage girl's blue jeans. Also you can't ignore the improved play of Evan Bouchard, especially on the PP; it seems like just yesterday that every single Oilers fan wanted Bouchard either traded or sent down and then he went on a how many game point streak … yeah
We really just need a solid goaltender.. Skinner is a good backup but keeping him as a starter is going to cost us.. I really hope Ken can pull off some kind of magic
One often overlooked factor in the Oilers' turnaround is that Eckholm looks like himself again. He missed the preseason with injury and didn't seem to be 100% early on, but he's back now. When Eckholm plays well Edmonton's defense is tighter, the goalies come under less pressure, and Bouchard's defensive lapses are less likely to end up in the net. It makes a difference.
Edmonton reminds me of a SEC football team from the 2000's: all offense and no defense, just going out and putting up enough points hoping it was enough to outlast the other guy. When the offense struggled to produce, all the sudden the defensive woes became blatantly obvious. There is zero chance that McDavid and Draisaitl can maintain the pace necessary to cover up their defensive issues for the remainder of the season and make the playoffs. It's just too large a hill to climb.
I can shamelessly say I'm rooting for their downfall, not because I dislike the Oilers or anything I just think it'd be so funny if Edmonton never wins a cup with arguably the best player to ever play

Wow I didnt realize the oilers were behind the kraken
McDavid is overrated.
Good player, but he doesn't play a complete game.
Pure offence, Patrick Kane package, but on steroids.
He can blitz you quite easily if you let him, but at the same time,
he'll just kind of stand there and watch his own goalie get blitzed.
He doesn't ever block shots or drop the gloves. He don't got that dog in him.
I don't know if he can even skate backwards.
As a Flames fan, I delight in the struggles of the Oilers. As a Canadian hockey fan, it saddens me.

Dam it's almost like investing all your money in a handful of players is a bad idea

I would love to see McDaved lift the cup. However, its not going to be with Edmonton.
I just don't want a Canadian Cup
I want a All Canadian Finale!
Leaf vs Oilers would be awesome

Mcsuck will be a leaf soon
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!
I am most definitely cheering for their downfall.
Welp they lost 2 in a row again in blowout fashion…looks like theyre back again lol
Eck you gotta cheer for the Nucks….. It tares my heart apart that the Nucks don't make the top 3 🙁
No, Eck. No one thinks you hate the Oilers, if anything a lot of your viewers think you nut hug them too much. It seems like you can't go two days without putting out a video on McJesus or the Oilers to the detriment of covering other far more interesting teams and stories across the league.

Seriously give the Oilers wankery a rest already.

They not gonna make the playoffs. Let's be real

If the Oilers trade for a consistent .900 goalie, they make the cup final.
McDavid needs to come to the Rangers, within the next 3 to 5 years.
I think they’re in playoff contention for sure. A lot of teams will be looking for trades by the end of the season and the right deal could set them up well. The oilers have what I call a good problem: they know what they need (consistent d men). This can be fixed with the right trades.

This might as well be an oilers update page. Give us some new teams please
Without a goalie there is no future. This is now obvious to everyone. Skinner will not be ready to hoist the cup this year. Was surprised Holland didn’t pick Rantta off waivers.
Last game gave me old oilers feelings. Such a up and down team. They need to win there next 2 can’t lose 3 in a row.

holy F&$K that bedard snipe was GROSS. How did I not see that highlight?!
mcDavid was injured by Kane so little was said… but he is feeling better.

OILERS ARE HORRIBLE.. KRIS COCKNOB IS NOT THE ANSWER AS COACH..
We're still a few years until mcdavid's Prime. Wait till he's 30. He'll have a 200+ point season but won't make the playoffs
Lets be honest here, as much as McDavid finally being McDavid was a factor in their winning streak the main reason for their winning was that they finally got some quality goaltending. Even if they make it that goaltending won’t get them past LA or Vegas so they’ll be bounced first round
As an agent of chaos I love seeing as few teams repeat making playoffs as possible
lol im cheering for their downfall
We really just need a solid goaltender.. Skinner is a good backup but keeping him as a starter is going to cost us.. I really hope Ken can pull off some kind of magic
Their goalies cant even stop beachballs.

We need to get real about the canes WE SUCK
