Wild starting to gain ground on Arizona and St. Louis in Central Division Standings! #minnesotawild

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins the show as we further break down a 3-0 win over Seattle. We discuss how John Hynes deployed Jared Spurgeon, Jake Middleton, Brock Faber and Zach Bogosian to fill the Jonas Brodin void. We discuss the new dynamic duo of Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy and the continued quest to find a 3rd player to fill that line. We discuss John Hynes showing continued faith in Marco Rossi, even through a couple of games in which he has struggled slightly. We also look at some of the in-game strategy Hynes has deployed throughout his tenure. We finish by looking at the Central Division, with both Arizona and St. Louis starting to struggle and the Wild beginning to close the gap on them in the standings!

  1. Guerin has to be scheming behind the scenes for a defensive third pairing solution. Is there a reason why Mermis is not playing? Is it money?

  2. Double shifting kaprisov didn’t do anything. Maybe less ice time would help him. He is still not the same yet.

  3. Johnny doesnt sit in class…he's in the bathroom selling candy out of his trenchcoat. 😂 For the love of God, this club needs Mermis or Hunt on the ice with Bogo (or both and sit Goose too) ASAP!

Good call on Zuccy too…Ill be the first to admit I misjudged him in preseason. We all said he lost a step, but numbers dont lie. Lizard is ripping it up still, and props must be given!

Great point on Hynes' ability to play the guys who are hot during the critical times. This league is so tight skill-wise that one little tweak could be the difference. I think a lot of it is getting those advanced combo looks that frankly SHOULD be happening by now, so good on the coaches for that.

  4. I hope Minnesota wins the Stanley Cup this season! What if a miracle happens! This is the NHL, everything is possible!
What do you think about Liedholm from the Calgary Flames? In my opinion, it’s an excellent center, I think you could try to get it, but then you’d have to give away something significant. Your opinion is very interesting. And another question: should Minnesota waste the season for the first pick in the draft? I think this is very stupid. Thank you.

  5. Couldn’t agree more on Johansson. If the Wild are going to take a leap, Johansson is going to need to get rolling a bit, maybe 12 – 15 goals as a fair number. Right now he is playing a perimeter game which needs to change. 97 is still forcing the play, needs to shoot and for heavens sake, finish on a lone-break. I would actually remove him from the top 3 on SO’s, going with Zuccarello / Boldy and Freddy until he starts finishing. Merrill got about a minute of ice time in P3, Hynes is recognizing they are a liability right now. Long season, so everyone other than maybe Dallas / Colorado will have some rough patches. Vancouver stronger than I expected, bigger on D but still vulnerable to a slide when the shooting % starts
to drop off. Edmonton, still going nowhere without goaltender help. Maybe send 29 there come March for a 2nd, maybe a 3rd rounder if we fall out of the picture. Wallstedt needs to get some minutes up north as he continues to develop. Gusty playing great positional goaltending, nice sign…

  6. I would rather have Prosvetov than Wedgewood. Obviously, the ideal would be to have someone like Brossoit or Fleury, or Jonathan Quick playing out of his mind.

  7. idk if ya know, I noticed this Ya know, but Alex Ya Know really seemed to Ya Know, have that one Ya Know section where Ya know he was saying Ya Know Ya Know about Ya Know 30 times in 10 Ya Know seconds Ya Know.

Also Love the pod, Just had to mention that cause it was too funny. Also as the president of the Dakota Mermis fan club, I demand a Merman and Daemon Hunt 3rd D pairing
