Sammy needs to prove he still has something at the NHL level before Woll gets back. With the way Jones has stepped in, there is zero chance he sneaks back through waivers, and the leafs don’t have the cap/roster space to hold 3 goalies waiting for Sammy to get his shit together.
Sammy was fantastic last year and im really hoping he pulls it together, but as he is now the leafs can’t keep trotting him out there when the games start to matter, and he is clearly the number 3 option when Will gets back.
Unless you have completely given up on him, you still have to play him.
You cant have good starts if you get no starts.
I really don’t think they do. What’s more important: Sammy possibly regaining some confidence or winning games with a solid goalie in net? We’ve got Jones for the time being and when Woll is back they could make a good tandem. I don’t see why the development of a struggling goalie on a one-year deal should supersede the general interest of the team.
Do you think if Sammy shits the bed we put him on waivers to send him down when Woll comes back? I honestly don’t see how Jones doesn’t get claimed with how solid of a backup he’s been for us and how a few teams are having serious Goalie issues.

Start him, but be prepared to pull him quickly. If he lets in 2 goals in the first period, yank him.
Will that lower his confidence? Yeah, but not any more than pulling him after goal number 4. This is the big leagues and performance is required. That’s a lot of pressure and may hurt some feelings, but to quote Dangle “That’s what the money’s for!”
