Nico is a fucking gem and the heart of our team. And he’s still getting better
He really is the most complete player on the team. His line is often doing the most as a unit, because his play can make everyone look better.
Nico is such a beaut. I always say he’s gonna age like a fine wine. I know he’s already been in the league plenty but I really think he’s gonna hit another level entering his late 20s early 30s. In a way, I feel like he still plays more conservatively than he needs to, but it’s because he values defensive responsibility & not giving up odd man rushes over trying to make an electric play.
I think the game’s gonna continue slowing down for him and we could see him really blossom as a gristled veteran. To me, he plays like a slightly undersized power forward, but he gets stronger on the puck and more effective in that style each year. I wish we could’ve had a series against Crosby bc I feel like he would’ve learned so much from him.
I really doubted his durability as a 1C, but he’s certainly proven he has heart. He’s started to embrace a little physical pushback in games this season and I think when he starts to *enjoy* it, he will actually get even better. Love me some Nico.
