There is an option when starting GM mode to add a contract year so they dont expire in the first free agency

When you do your expansion franchise with custom rosters you have to add a contract year because the contracts go back a year because they’re this seasons contracts last year.

My only question about the rumor of Joe Thornton going to the Maple Leafs is that they had that with Patrick Marleau! So is Toronto admitting to their mistake when they got rid of Marleau? Or it's just most cost effective now if Joe Thornton willing to take alot less? What makes it work this time? Just curious about it.

EA basically copy and pastes their game every year, pretty much just a roster update. There’s 0 reason that a game should be bugged or glitched as majorly as it is on launch. On a game mode like HUT where they have most of their monetization heavily influencing, billions of dollars in revenue, it’s unacceptable. Especially a triple-A, full price title that has a yearly release. It is inexcusable and very frustrating for long time core players that have to deal with minimal effort from EA year after year.
Speaking of Steve Dangle, I would love to see you one day doing a video/podcast with him and talk about hockey, esp regards to off season what all has happened 🙂

'Mutant League Hockey' by EA for Sega Genesis is much more fun than a game trying to simulate real hockey. Fights that end in decapitations, fire pits you can skate into, laying land mines on the ice, bribing referees, and playing on the MOON and in a GRAVEYARD! I miss those days. Developers weren't afraid to take a chance and be creative.

I gave up expecting EA or any video game company to make a good hockey game a while ago. If you want to play a good hockey game, go old school with cards and dice. Hockey Bones and Shoot-Out are two I'd recommend upfront, though there are numerous others that might better suit your personal taste. You're welcome.

Well when it comes to Be A Pro this year they have made being a goalie a little better. The AI will actually pass to an open man sometimes for a one timer instead of shooting it right at the goalie whose covering the entire side of the net they shoot at, so that's something good. That being said it's still EA so there's plenty wrong with it.
Leafs could have better leadership but maybe they're thinking getting players who might be desperate for a Cup….
Totally agree on not playing online, way too many a-holes to deal with.
stop making excuses for EA they are a garbage developer, producer, everything. You want to know how you make a good game every year? multiple studios, more people working on the game, more money. EA runs these games on ghost crews using junior programmers from Bangladesh to pull the game together. fuck EA
I stopped playing online about 20 years ago. I just wanna play casual and almost everyone online is a hardcore gamer.

As a sharks fan whose been blessed to have a great team with a deep roster for the majority of the last 5-10 years, who has also bought/played nhl14, nhl15, nhl16, nhl17, and nhl19, I don’t know if I should even get nhl21 even though I skipped 20, cus the sharks are probably going to be abysmal this upcoming season and plus nhl22 will hopefully have a better sharks roster, plus better gameplay, still have a good be a pro, and it’ll have Seattle in it… thoughts or opinions on that?

Habs getting Allen is ultra smart move. It shows that they are allready all-in PLUS its a big bait for Kraken to catch. Allen can be 95% goalie when needed.

I think that a goaltender has to play certain number of games in the upcoming season, in order to be eligible for exposure
A video comparing Chara and Krug might be entertaining. Offence and Defense. Age as well. Krug signs a generous (by this years standards) contract with the Blues. Chara is waiting, and I expect will sign for 'what is left' once the B's roster is set.
Krug – Top 10 in points by defensemen (8). QB of the NHLs 2nd best PP last year. 3rd in time on ice for the team.
Chara – Top 10 in +/- by defensemen (9). QB of the NHLs 3rd best PK last year. 2nd in time on ice for the team.
What would Chara be worth if he was 29 with last years stats? What does the league (GMs) value more? compare with other top offensive defensmen, and defensive defensemen.

I make no comment on EA games as I stopped using them when they gained monopoly . After reading viewer comments it seems an "I hate EA channel " might be more prosperous then a NHL 20 channel . And yes I do realize that gaming industry is more prosperous than TV , Movies or Music .

Can players/teams renegotiate contracts like they do in the nfl?
Knights had much "grit" enough to give up Schmidt to get an absolute upgrade; Leafs didn't. I like Rielly, but if Petro would have signed Leafs, then Morgan who? Rasmus who? I also had a feeling that not fans but Dubas himself overestimates his young Ds (Sandin, Lilly, Rosen) so much that they can lead Leafs to the Cup. I believe that at least GM should not even if anyone else do. Now he have to sign both Soup and Dermott given 400K 🤡
