That was rude. Not dirty or illegal, just rude. Määttä was trying to swat it down with his hand; he never possessed it nor did he have a chance to protect himself. Really inconsiderate to hit a guy in that situation, but that's just who Hathaway is.
He walked into that. I’m pretty sure they drew it up that way. It’s called “god help anyone trying to catch this extra fat sauce into the middle of the ice with all of us at the blue line waiting for it.”
So there needs to be a policy by the refs, that when there's a fight instigated after a hit on which there was no penalty, a double minor is automatically assessed, or even a triple minor. Instigation. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Delay of Game. It's a cowardly move that's not a part of the code, something that never existed in the game until recently.

Still a fight ,that hit could not be any cleaner he let up and was pure shoulder on shoulder.
