I kind of liken Necas to Eric Staal. Staal was a finisher and was fortunate to have Eric Cole on his line to set him up. Staal though loafed back on defense, coasted a lot, always seeming to be waiting for someone else to get things going and then find him in front of the other team’s net. Necas, as did the younger Eric Staal, has a lot of talent. But like Staal, he doesn’t fit this Canes’ team. I agree: trade him for a big grinder who can dig the puck out and make scoring chances happen. We all see how the Canes struggle in puck battles in the gritty areas. There is surely a team out there who has a lot of grinders but not enough finishers who would be glad to have Necas.
