Trenin hit on Frost – Have your say!

Yakov Trenin drilled Morgan Frost head first into the dasher. He ended up with a five minute major penalty for boarding and a 10 minute misconduct. Was this worth the major? Have your say!

  1. Trenin led with his shoulder to Frost's shoulder. Doesn't seem like he's got malicious intent there either. Trenin is a bigger forward, Frost is undersized. I think if he does that hit to most forwards, it's an obvious no call, but the way a smaller guy like Frost falls makes it look worse than it was. Honestly, tough call to make there in real time. I could see some crews calling it a minor penalty and some crews not calling it at all. Either call seems fine to me as long as they are consistent with their calls and they talk to the players about what they're looking for. Definitely wasn't worthy of a game misconduct though, I think most will agree with that.

  2. Nothing for or against either team, personally. Glides from beyond the blue line, seems like he hit trying to use shoulder as much as possible and deliver it at an angle (not directly into his numbers). Doesn't look malicious at all. Definitely not a game misconduct, I can see why they called boarding though. I think this falls under that conversation about players putting themselves (inadvertently or not) in a position to get hit like this, but it also definitely feels like one of those situations where there is no consistency in officiating. A hit like this will mean nothing one game, and a game misconduct in another. If you are reviewing it… get it right.

  3. The league should just make hits from behind illegal. It's never been called, but it's simple. If a player is head down and facing the glass, you can't hit him into the glass. You need to sweep along the boards and hit from the side or dont throw the check.

Or just put the stop signs above the numbers like we all had in minor hockey. If you see the stop sign, you dont check. You stick check and/or hit the brakes and shove them off the puck.

  4. No penalty, play on
Skater is slowing down when he hits.
Player with the puck put himself in a dangerous position, looking down and not aware of his surroundings.
If anything Morgan Frost should thank Trenin for taking it easy, could have been a lot worse
