What should the Washington Capitals expect from Max Pacioretty?

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan does a player profile of Max Pacioretty. The Caps got a steal for $2 million, plus $2 million in incentives. Pacioretty only played five games for the Hurricanes last season due to a torn Achilles. He underwent surgery for the same injury on Aug. 10, 2022. The 34-year-old forward scored three goals in those five games. In an episode of his podcast Agent Provocateur for the Steve Dangle Podcast Network, Pacioretty’s agent Allan Walsh revealed that at least a quarter of the league made an offer, with Washington coming out on top. His specialty is putting the puck in the net. Has good speed, excellent hands and a big shot that he gets away quickly and on target. He can get to the front of the net for tips and quick snap shots, and he can also score from distance. Though he is big enough not to get pushed around, injuries have become an issue as he has moved into his 30s.

  1. My first thought when I saw the question was…they should expect and demand a high level of play. I hope he’s able to play well when he laces up the skates…

  2. I watched max skate this morning. Good to see and he looked good, hopefully he’s back soon.

  3. The capitals have Alex Ovechkin! They can do things this year especially if they are able to continue buy into coach rules and demands. If Max can slide into the lineup and not disrupt like Backstrom did last year ruining the season. The caps were fine before Backstrom came back. Ovechkin is still the mighty one with 17 30 goal seasons so far. Probably get his 18th this year. He could get to 30 30 goal seasons before he is done. Ovechkin makes 9 million. An unijured max would make 6 maximum.

  4. I like the deal. I think it was worth the risk. The DC area is not a bad place to raise a family either. Maybe some of the youth on the team will invigorate him. If he gets 20+ goals and 55-60 games, it will be a good deal.

  5. So, I'm from Michigan, a lifelong Wings fan. But I am a big fantasy hockey guy. I also have Ovi captaining my team, but recently I picked up Max Pac and put him in my IR spot. I was hoping he would be coming back soon, but no real news on him since early November. Do you think he's coming back soon? Is this going to happen? I'm a big fan of the guy he's an incredible scorer and I feel like if he returns he really could help Ovi get back to his scoring ways.
