Injuries and Standings Make 2024 a Big Hill for the Wild to Climb #minnesotawild

On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, Alex Micheletti joins us to ring in the New Year! We start by recapping a frustrating weekend with two losses to Winnipeg and two injuries that could prove to be costly for the Wild. We look at Marc-Andre Fleury’s continued climb up the record books, and why we hope Wild fans appreciate having Fleury on the roster even in the later stages of his career. We discuss the injuries to Kirill Kaprizov and Filip Gustavsson, and how the Wild can fill the losses of both players. We also look at the 2024 portion of the schedule for the Wild to see if they will be able to climb out of their early season funk and make the postseason. We also discuss players that need to step up and take charge.

  1. One thing that drives me nuts about the NHL is injury reporting. Why do we have to wait days to figure out how long a player will be out. It makes no sense.

  2. I’ll add to that the league and player association allowing teams to blatantly injure without repercussions. No penalty, no fine, no suspension. The Wild fought all December to climb back into the conversation only to have their best player cross checked off the ice and into the doctor’s office. The NHL desperately needs new leadership. I’d also add though the referees have a difficult job, I’d like them to be held more accountable. That means giving explanations for their decision making. Even if it’s through a leadership filter. Look at all the changes the NFL has made in the last few years. GB get a clue or get replaced please.

  3. HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2024 is gonna be a big one, and I figured I'd kick it off with the PWHA Toronto vs. New York game today. It's awesome to see the ladies FINALLY get their own league!

  4. yea there's no question that Dillon's cross-checks were deliberate and intended to injure. intentionality is the word that comes to mind, and when you slow the video down, he's guilty. no doubt about it lol – OH! and i'd even argue that he wouldn't have stopped until he either injures or gets a penalty. they had the lead and was worth the risk at that stage in the game.

  5. I expected Foligno to go full cave man and hit Ehlers, Nino, hell even pretend to lose footing into the goalie, as the Jets seemed very practiced at!

Even Duhaime just chit chatting all game, Drop the gloves and hit the cowardous bastard!!! There's an old goon's adage…Elbows up the rest of the way until the refs pull them down. When goons go after stars, the first strike's usually elbows up because you almost have to take their head off right now to draw an elbowing call!

That being said, GREAT ONE HANDED CHOKE SLAM EKKERS!!! Ler's see more nastiness back. You take way too much crap!

  6. Not sure what Alex is getting at re: Brossoit; he may not be playing as well as Quick or Ingram, but I'd take him every day and twice on Sunday over Wedgewood.
