Samsonov likely suffering PTSD from playing behind the likes of Brodie for 20 minutes a game for way to long. Fucking guy is never where he needs to be and couldn't block a shot to save his goddamn life. All he does is watch Leaf games and sometimes jump in to screen his own goaltenders for 5.25mill a yr. I wish Sammy a speedy recovery.
Calling up the kid and starting him in California is not the right play. Especially the way how the defence is playing the kid is going to get killed out there. The NHL is not the AHL totally different beast the kid has to face. If he does play I’m willing to come back to this comment and say he got thrown to the wolves or if he does amazing I’ll gladly eat my words right up. Jones is the guy right now I’m confident in him that he will carry the load for now

Good news is samsanov is only on a one year deal. Campbell is 2 years in to a 5 year deal
The problem isn't Samsonov, the problem is that the rest of the team are playing as if they have Vasilevskiy or Demko in goal behind them.

Marner gives away the puck night after night and Keefe's solution is scratching Kampf. With any luck Keefe will get fired. Giordano is back. However Keefe will now run him into the ground with way to much playing time.
This seasons looking like it might resemble the 2019 – 2020 season a lot for the Leafs in the sense there was about 20 – 30 games left in the season & it was a dogfight for 3rd in the Division. This will probably be a season where the Leafs will struggle to make the Playoffs, let alone do anything once they get there
They better not go All In at the Deadline as they don't have Elite Defence or Goaltending & you need at least 1 of those to go along with their Elite defence to be a Cup Contender. With how Alright their Defence is the team really needs a Top Goalie to make up for that & they don't have anything like that.

A lot of people think Joseph Woll is the savior but he's a year ahead of schedule. This guy is still a rookie and to put all this pressure on his back at this point is a crap shoot. His injury could affect his play, I think he has been awesome but it's not a guarantee that he's the answer.

I agree 100%. This team has respectable stats offensively. Here's the thing; If you score 5 goals but lose 6-5 or score 6 goals but lose 7-6 what does it matter?!? Stop blaming Samsonov who came into this job with some integrity. Admittedly, he is troubled right now. I wouldn't be surprised if he went somewhere else and became a Leaf killer but that isn't going to serve the Leaf's defensive issues. If you had players actually coached on HOW to play defense, how to finish their assignments, how to block shots it would IMMEDIATELY elevate the performance/confidence of the goalie behind them. It's simple math! It's difficult not to name names but there is one defenseman that CONSISTENTLY screws up. I think he would lead the NHL for assists however they would be assists for the opposition! And yet, he gets played on PPs!?!?!?! That identifies issues not restricted to defense. It reminds me of the guy working on his golf swing. He has a horrible swing and he keeps practicing it!! He needs his swing FIXED, not ingrained! Sadly, "THE captain must go down with the ship", and I don't mean Tavares. If there was a Poke-Check award, the Leafs would OWN it! Their D has HORRENDOUS fundamentals….and whomever you put behind them in the pipes is going to get DESTROYED!! Let's blame Samsonov, then Jones, then Woll, then Hildeby, then….. Here's wishing Samsonov all the best, where-ever he goes. Hopefully he will have a D in front of him.

Woll will be destroyed when he returns. No defence either in personnel or structure. Leafs must score at least 4 goals every game to have a chance to win on a regular basis
The only way for the leafs to move forward is to trade one of the big forwards (perhaps a sign and trade for Nylander) to get a top defender to anchor the blue line, and somehow to get at least a competent NHL goalie, their goalie situation right now is a complete dumpster fire

They are in charge of line changes.
There were lots of mistakes made in that game the goalie was not responsible for that led to goals, the Leafs are not placing responsibility where it belongs.
Keefe should be taking himself out for a few games.

The team defence has been bad, Sammy has been much worse. An “attractive” goaltending trade will not fix this team, I’d be happy rolling with Woll/Jones with a stronger team defensively then give up 35+ shots a night with someone like Gibson.
