Being a T-birds season ticket holder, I watched Theo play a ton. In my opinion, he never should have been a defenseman. His defensive instincts just are not stellar and he is not active enough with his stick or body in his own zone. He really should have been developed as a goal scoring winger, who can still play the point on the powerplay. Even if he was a forward, he would still be the ideal powerplay quarterback for any team.
However, he is the best offensive defensive to have ever worn a T-birds jersey. He blows Thomas Hickey out of the water. His wrister on the powerplay or from the point is INSANE. With a screen in front, and if the shot isn't blocked and is on net, the puck is going in the net, hands down. His wrister is astonishingly heavy and accurate, meaning it's likely going to go in when he has a good scoring chance. However, the main reason I feel he should have been developed as a forward are those rushing end to end goals I have seen him score. He has a variety of moves he uses in tight on the goalie. He'll sometimes snipe it, casually fake it and put it upstairs, or just flat out embarrass and deke the goalie on his ass.
He still needs to work on his puck control in certain situations. Occasionally he gets a little sloppy and distracted at the point, usually at even strength, and ends up turning the puck over. During his rookie year he would fan on a shot where had a wide open net or shoot wide sometimes, but he has made lots of improvements with that.
Anaheim, make the right decision, and make him a Winger. He can still quarterback the powerplay.
