  1. Agreed fighting is a part of the sport but smashing a puck that can break all the teeth in ur mouth is just pussy shit if done intentionally

  2. Like most rules in sports, if they took away this stuff overnight, there would be way too much pushback. You need to slowly create new rules and protections, then steadily up the punishments over time to eliminate it.

  3. I think a lot of people who like to say things are "soft" now are mostly douchebags who don't like it now that they're getting called out for their douchebaggery. I'm all for a tilly or two in a hockey game, and hits are a part of the game, but deliberately launching a chunk of vulcanized rubber at 85+ mph at someone with the intent to harm IS 100% a douchebag move, and doing it at the end of a game is also chickenshit is fuck.

  4. Suggesting that there should be serious consequences for cowardly acts is the opposite of a soft take. Giving someone a bloody nose or wrestling them down to the ice for trying to give your teammate a career ending injury isn't a deterrent. Players in the NHL aren't even capable of handling these situations the way they need to be handled because an adequate response would be just as dangerous. I like physical hockey but this is not that. This doesn't fall under the umbrella of what John Tortorella is talking about.
