playoff team? What? They were dominated most of the game and were outshot 2 to 1. They literally have what, 6 or 7 regulation wins. MSL has them playing much better than last year, but they are still rebuilding are at least 3 years away from a playoff run
I think Monty is played just enough. Its not easy getting 5 starts in a row in this league. Putting all that pressure on a goalie with only tandum experience isnt fair. They are doing it perfect right now by giving him tough games and giving him no more then 2 in a row.
I know a lot of people will say the Habs got outshot 47-30 but in the cup run this is EXACTLY how they played. They were maybe a little less sloppy but most games there would be decent shot from Habs and lot from other team. They probably dont make the playoffs anyway unless they win the next 7. 5 hard teams and 2 easy. Probably not gonna happen.
Giving up 48 shots is a good indication the team is moving in the right direction.This is why I have constantly talked about how bad the forwards are in the defensive zone .The forwards do NOT help the defense by covering open players to take away passing lanes so tha tteams can't cycle the puck forever in the Habs end. Luckily htere are a lot of bad shooters in the NHL no surprise really this has been forever some teams have maybe 2-3 but most have 1-2 good shooters. A goalies performance is simply a case of weather shooters shoot right at him or they aim for the top corners and make goalies look bad.The days of Turco and Brodeur coming out acting like a 3rd defense are long gone goalies now are just guys that drop to their knees and pray the puck hits them.
Too early to or should I say excited to think we are going to the playoffs. We still have a couple of years to make some gains and make the playoffs. We need an elite goalie, Monty is going to be that goalie to give you solid 30 games as a back up. We need to trade Monahan, Gallagher, Savard, Anderson, to name a few vets to tank , get some nice young prospects and a good pick in the first round. Sadly Dvorak is injured, some teams were looking to add them on their teams for the playoffs. I’d trade Allen âne yes even Primesu for any good takers out there.

Monty IS the Habs #1 goalie. IF there was any debate about it, it IS settled. Two of the three goals were off deflections which barring the luckiest break possible , were next to impossible to stop . And the other one was a play off a face-off that happened real quick. The Canadiens next step is to get consistent……and keep opposition shots on goal down.
