This is the test for Lav. Team looks identical to gallant’s team last year. He’s supposed to be able to get their heads back on straight. But if he can’t maybe it really was a problem with the players all along and there’s nothing a coaching change could do.

  2. iceturtles

Sucks to lose two back to back games but it feels like our offense is building and I’m not worried at all about our goalies getting back to their game

  3. Ochocincoondeck

One line teams do not win Cups

    See Edmonton

  4. When is the front office going to be held accountable for our lack of player development?

  5. Doctor_Freckles

We had 42 shots on goal and lost 6-3 tonight. Against Montreal, we had 49 shots on goal and lost 4-3. It’s stats like these that make me wanna slam my fucking head against a wall repeatedly.

  6. Sjdillon10

    10-9-1 since December

This is why we shouldn’t get mad at doomers. This team is consistent at setting the bar high and breaking our hearts

  7. GrexxSkullz

Foxy hasn’t looked the same since his injury. Fuck Aho.

  8. Classic_Death_Star

Love how Lav is in this post game: he acknowledges how good Vancouver was tonight, AND he holds both himself and his team accountable for their performance.

  9. – Mika needs help. Kreider is sooo streaky 5v5, doesn’t create, doesn’t forecheck and has been what feels like invisible for several games now and wheeler is just bad. I’d love to see vesey and cuylle get a shot, at the very least over wheeler, for a full game.

    – shesty has been mediocre. One thing I’ve noticed is even his stick handling has been poor, feels like everytime he tries to play the puck it’s a net negative now.

    – goody, bonino, wheeler are killing us 5v5.

    – I really like our defense and idk why we are giving up so many chances lately… I’m confident fox will pick back up towards end of season

    – Lav feels like he’s falling into Av/gallant-like habits by continuing to plays those guys and then benching Othman – not saying Othman would make a difference this game or last, but why play bonino and goodrow more than him? Let’s see what the dude can do without a leash when the 2nd line is the only line producing. Also, needs to drop wheeler down already, shake up that line.

  10. zucarigan

I propose a drinking game for Thursday.

Take a shot every time one of our players has to collect a bad pass by kicking it up to their stick

  11. 1 word: Turnovers.

If we didn’t keep giving the puck away….
We have offense. We we have defense, sometimes. The other times, they pathetically turn the puck over in our zone.

  12. SilentSaidd

Truly baffling some of the defensive choices the d men make when clearing the zone. No one wants to skate it out or deal with the pressure from the other team so they make a selfish pass to someone else to do it and a lot of the time that’ll lead to turnovers. I don’t know how it’s going unchecked either. If I can see it with my own eyes the coach and the players definitely can.

I understand with injuries they’re missing 2 forwards who can skate the puck out but they’ve both been down for a while now and have had ample time to adjust play and just haven’t. It sounds like Kakko is really close to being ready and we don’t play again till Thursday so fingers crossed he’s able to play then. That should help things significantly

  13. duckets615

Victims of their own success. They’ve fallen behind and won so many times early in the year that they look like they just expect it to happen. No urgency or fight. On top of that they lapsed mentally big time and are regressing into last years team. The top lines are overpassing looking for the pretty goal and have become overly reliant on the one timer, especially on the pp, passing up high% shots for bad angle ones. They’re not paying attention defensively and leaving tons of open ice, they come out slow to start periods and go to sleep for a few shifts whenever a goal is scored, for or against. There’s a whole shit list of problems so it’s time for Laviolette to earn his paycheck and wake this team up cuz this is 100% lack of focus.

  14. WoodyHarrelsonFucks

Are we ready to hold Adam Fox accountable yet orrrr nah?

  15. SilentSaidd

The problem with any coach coming to this NYR team is the inability to move the top players even if the results are poor. It is beyond clear our best players are all on the 2nd line. Cuylle on the 4th line is more noticeable and generating more every game than Kreider at 5v5. He deserves to move up not down. The brodz experiment should be over the second Kakko is ready and I’d really like to see Cuylle-Mika-Kakko. I’m not saying Cuylle is a top line player but he deserves a look. Let the 3rd line be Kreids-Bonino-Othman and the 4th be Vesey-Goodrow-Wheeler.

If Lav wants to prove he’s gonna be different and not a retread DON’T be afraid to move around Kreider and Mika, even the d pairs. At the end of last year Miller-Trouba was one of the worst D pairs in the league and they are running that pair back. It’s just insane, Lav MAKE A CHANGE PLEASE YOU ARE THE COACH NOT THE PLAYERS.

  16. njerejeje

“The Rangers are 8-7-1 in their last 16!”

Yeah, that’s true, but I also think this is being given way more negative attention than it warrants. Literally every single team has a rough stretch at some point over the course of an 82 game season. Last, year Vegas had a stretch in December/January where they went 7-8-3. It happens.

I’m still cautiously optimistic because many of the Rangers’ recent issues are fixable. They aren’t getting buried in their own zone at 5v5 due to a lack of skill, they’re making bad passes on exits. That’s fixable. I know it’s fixable because they weren’t doing that for the first 2 months of the season. I also trust Laviolette way more than Gallant, because Laviolette actually *coaches*, which is admittedly a low bar.

    The Hork’s View from 222

    * Usually when I bring friends to the game (and even just because of my own transit time) I don’t get to see all the hype intros and everything. Just a shout-out to the Garden crew for doing a great job with the intro videos and such.
    * Bad omen: The Rangers left the ice during warmups when there were still like 3 or 4 Canucks still out there. Isn’t that, like, bad juju?
    * Also, one of the linesman’s names was Shandor. I think he brought the curse of Gozer onto us. Sorry, bad Ghostbusters joke..
    * I wish I could remember who did the national anthem, because… She. Was. AWESOME. Great rendition of Oh Canada (and I’m disappointed in the Canucks fans there because I was the only one shouting FREE like they’re supposed to) and she also gave us room during the Star Spangled Banner to shout LET’S GO RANGERS. Even Brancy doesn’t always do that.
    * Also, I rarely hear the crowd singing along, and they were to both anthems. Love it. LOVE IT.
    * Surprisingly, we had a great start initially. I hate that it petered out.
    * Trocheck was looking good tonight. He was one of only two or three real highlights. The power play can continue to produce and that’s nice.
    * So many turnovers!!! I need to find some stats for how many turnovers we had because by God we turned over more pucks than you could imagine.
    * Results: lots of chances for those mother-Canuckers. And they took advantage of it.
    * Among many other celebs, Dean Winters in the house – Lord knows he really brought the Mayhem tonight.
    * God… One before the horn is always a pisser. Especially when you look up and see that *Shesterkin had just barely over a .500 save percentage at that point.* 3 goals on 7 shots. What the fuck.
    * We let the team have it on their way out after the first. And I hope Laviolette did too.
    * At least Junior Rangers are cute.
    * Karaoke Cam – All The Small Things. Surprisingly on point, and also very lackluster.
    * Lafrenière to Panarin was an absolute thing of beauty. That line is our 5v5 pride and joy. That got us going for a little bit. Not enough, though… not *nearly* enough.
    * At some point it looked like Wheeler got demoted from the first line to the third during the 2nd period. He belongs there, but man the 3rd and 4th are rough right now anyway. I’m over Wheeler, Bonino and Goodrow. Wheeler eventually ended up back on the top line though.
    * I can’t even be mad at Petterson’s goal. That was an impressive move. He’s going to cost Vancouver a good $11.5m next year (which I think works out to $15m Canadian Roubles).
    * Ok, I made that joke thinking it couldn’t be that bad. $11.5m USD is $15.345m CAD. That’s impressively bad for them. But good if you’re vacationing in Canada (Vancouver is quite pretty)
    * The follow up goal, though, you better believe I’m pissed at.
    * Moments of a more physical game towards the end of the second, but definitely not anything that’s really bringing energy, or enough to get us really going.
    * Again, boys got boo’d off the ice for good reason going into the second Intermission.
    * My condolences to the guy in line for the bathroom whose brother in law go l just got divorced, but he said he’s apparently got a big (*hog*) and bags of money so he’ll be ok? WTF?
    * Third period, I hope that Laviolette ripped them again. Hell if they deposit in their shorts again this period, I hope he gets a whistle and tells them AGAIN all night (spoiler: I hope he got that whistle).
    * Still, this period, the boys showed up. Crisper passes at first, more hustle, some REALLY nice chances.
    * At one point Kreider had a goddamn Raptor engine strapped to his skates and he made a bee line from a faceoff win to a shot on goal. That was impressive.
    * So too was Trocheck’s second of the night. Also assisted by Lafrenière. Again, Troch and Laffy two of the only highlights and at least that line was producing.
    * But all too soon the time winds down, the refs refuse to call penalties after we squandered a power play, and Petterson put us to bed. Fuck.
    * One thing I *REALLY* noticed is that something is wrong with Zibanejad. He’s not even snakebitten, he’s just not shooting. He’s very much in his own head and that showed in some of the chances he passed on.
    * Also, I think PBR fucked up the ice. The Blue Crew took a lot of time cleaning and focusing on certain areas that normally they don’t, the refs were telling them to look at certain areas, and at one point one of the refs was doing some ice repair of his own on our blue line in the 3rd. Could that have hurt us? Possibly. But not enough to be a *real* contributing factor.

So for the second time this season we have back to back losses. I forgot how much those suck. It’s not the end of the world and it does feel like, as someone said, we’re just coasting into the All Star break. But I do not like that, there should be hustle instead of resignation. Unless it’s a significantly planned by the coaching staff unofficial break to let the team coast and recover, but even still that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

At least my friends had a good time for their first MSG trip and Rangers game, loss not withdrawing.

  18. Key-Tip-7521

Troch was right, when you give up so many odd man rushes, turn the puck over 13 TIMES!!! against a team like the Canucks are, your setting yourself up for failure. Lav said it best; bad line changes, bad zone exits, and leaving Igor out to dry. SOUND FUCKING FAMILIAR?! Troubs, WHERE THE FUCK WERE YOU GOING ON THAT HIT?! Stay w/ya man. Gus, bad defensive plan that led to I believe the early goal. Need to have that cleaned up. Hoglander’s goal was one word… wow. Admitting it. Loved the way Laf has played. That entire Line has been good. w/o sounding like a nut, this team needs a physical winger. Yes, besides a center (an affordable one), this team needs physicality. Oh, Lav is trying his best to clean up the fucking mess left behind by DQ and the War Criminal known as GG. One more thing, someone on the PP needs to be selfish. Like on the last one. FUCKING DO IT!!!!

Rant over. A mini one. Got beat by a good team, that has a good goalie.

2 days off. Back at it Thursday. Onto the Blues.

  19. Albatross300

Say what you will but K’andre Miller is not good defensively at all and is nothing but a liability

  20. njerejeje

Maybe a hot take, but I think this team will be fine. Kakko coming back will have a big positive impact on their 5v5 defense even if he only had 5 goals all year, and Chytil will either return, or we can use his LTIR space to have tons of cap space at the deadline. This is still a top 3 team in the league by points percentage.

  21. Grouchy-Power-806

I guess if we’re going to have a little down cycle, now’s the time. Kick it into high gear and finish the season strong.
