  1. Why would you want Marner gone? This is the sign of a person who doesn't know what they are talking about. You don't just replace his skill in the lineup. Talent like his isn't common in the league. So frustrating to listen to people give dumb opinions on the Leafs over and over again. You can never keep Leaf fans happy no matter what happens, good or bad.

  2. I don't get why you guys are praising the Crosby contract. Sure, it looks good right now, but that thing was HUGE at the time. 14.5% of the cap hit big.
For reference, 14.5% of the cap hit next year would be about $12.7M, which would put him as the second highest-paid player, behind Matthews' $13.25M and $1M more than MacKinnnon's $12.6M.

  3. He's still on his current deal with that 10 team no trade clause. Now that he's locked up, hopefully teams will be more interested in dealing for him. Marner is better and has a full no move. We can't risk losing him for nothing, and there's no way we can build a team around these guys when your second best winger is at 11.5 mill because of this 35-game sample size

  4. You ask the question, why don't the Leafs ever win an negotiation? Why does Marner have a no-trade contract? Is it the new GM? Is it the former GM? Is it the coach? NO. The guy who has given these players what ever they want, and has been around for all the playoff fiascos this team has failed at? Simple answer….Brendan Shanahan. He is the guy who should be on the firing line.

  5. Here's Marner with the Knights showing some grit. He went on to lead the OHL playoffs in scoring with 44 points in 18 games winning the Wayne Gretzky Trophy and followed that by winning the Memorial Cup, scoring 14 points in 4 games, winning the Memorial Cup MVP as well. We're lucky to have him!! The word scapegoat comes to mind. Check out the Leafs record without him in the lineup.

BTW, my favourite player growing up was Wendel. Honourable mentions to Dougie and Iafrate. Later on Tucker and Roberts.

  6. According to Capfriendly. "After signing Nylander to an 8 year/$11.5M AAV extension, we now show the Leafs have a projected cap hit of $66,438,000 in 2024-25, based on 14 contracts (9F-3D-2G) currently on the active roster. This leaves $21.062M in cap space for 9 spots." Nylander also has a full no movement clause throughout the 8 year contract. Good luck Leafs!

  7. If people want to blame anyone for the bloated contracts; blame Dubas. He signed Marner for huge money, signed Matthews for huge money, signed Tavares for huge money, he set the precedent that these guys are all $10,000,000+ players. Matthews and Marner were probably both overpaid by a couple million dollars on their first real deals, but now that they are worth the money, they aren’t going to be satisfied without a raise, so the cycle of having to overpay them continues. Ultimately this has been an organizational problem for about 30+ years, so Dubas is far from the only guy responsible, but the media also plays a significant role in them being overpaid, no one else gets the coverage the leafs get, when the media is constantly pumping their tires (until playoff time) and once they are being talked about as superstar players; they’re gonna wanna get paid like superstars.

  8. Its a 1 year problem, if you're not happy go be a Calgary fan because they went through the same and traded a top guy…now Calgary is a .500 team and no one wants to be there.
I love Nylander Go Leafs Go!!!!

  9. Have been saying this about Marner since the habs series. He’s an incredible player and you cannot replace him in a trade. However, I think his attitude is a big reason why this team is lacking heart in the playoffs. I would move on from him, while acknowledging he’s one of the best talents we’ve ever had.

  10. As a long time fan of Marner (own his jersey) I’m sick of his no show playoff appearances…. Good players do get traded all the time and it’s Marners time. We need fuckin defence.
