Not Jumping Off the Juolevi Bandwagon

I get that he didn’t have a great Young Stars Tournament, but it really isn’t a big deal. The Canucks don’t need him to play this coming season anyway. He has zero pressure right now.

  1. Just let all those chicken littles chirp on about the sky falling. You can be there at the end of the year saying I told you so.

  2. He's only 19. Give the kid at least another year before we call him a bust. How many 19 year olds played in Detroit when they were at an elite level? Nik Lidstrom was 21 when he broke into the league. That's 2 whole years older than Juolevi. He's got plenty of time. Even the so-called "bust" Virtanen has time. If he turns into Shane Doan, he has a few years before we can call him a bust because Doan took a number of years before he became an effective NHL player. We need to ditch the notion that every player develops as fast as McDavid or Marner. They don't. It doesn't mean they won't be good NHLers. It just means they're not generational players, so putting pressure on Juolevi or even Virtanen to be elite players at this stage is premature.

  3. I think a lot of the worry is coming from looking at the Flames. They drafted Tkachuk after Juolevi and he's already an NHL powerfoward. This year they drafted Valimaki 16th overall and he had a good rookie tournament, is likely going to be the captain for Finland at the Juniors, and Valimaki had a better year than the older Juolevi.
    Valimaki 18, 19-42-61 60gp
    Juolevi 19, 10-32-42 58gp

I'm not saying Juolevi is a bust or he needs to be in the NHL now but that pick could've been better.

  4. I have seen no one call Juolevi a bust. Did you read one or two people say that now you are saying "Canuck fans think he's a bust"? I legit just see people saying he would benefit from a year with Salo in Europe. But sure lets go with the Canucks fans think Juolevi is a bust and Benning should be fired. I love how people need to shit talk the fanbase so they can pretend they knew better the whole time.

  5. When he was drafted he was compared to maata. They're styles are very similar. Over the last two years maata has been at a sub NHL level. Im not saying that oullevi will be that but he's not anything special.

  6. top 4 dman at best, when he gets there. Nothing special about his game, isnt a game-breaker in junior, not going to be a game-breaker in the NHL. He had an underwhelming year this past year, hopefully he can bounce back. That said, there were definitely better defenceman to be had in that draft, Sergachev, Bean, McAvoy, Chychrun, etc.

  7. Your bang on even if its another year not in the NHL give him the time to really get his game and he will become that top 4 guy we need

  8. Did anyone catch your eye at Young Stars?  I'm not worried about Juolevi on the ice, but the rumors about a poor attitude bother me.

  9. There's talk of him coming to TPS Turku for a year to play against men in FEL and learn to play defence better.
I think Puljujarvi's and Juolevi's last season was not optimal for their development (for totally different reasons), maybe they should've played in Finnish League.
Interestingly, playing in KHL seems to work quite well for Eeli Tolvanen, maybe these 18 year old talents (Laine and Matthews being exceptions, they are obviously of higher class) should use those options more.
Speaking about Laine: he seems like muscular monster these days, will be absolutely dominant. He oozes confidence. 50 goals ?

  10. I don't think it's necessarily that Juolevi is bad, I think is that there were so many better players taken after him that the Canucks could have taken, they did kind of blow that pick.

  11. Lol I don't understand why any one cares about:
    Young stars
    WJC
    CHL Top Prospects Game
People seem to rate guys like Hischier based solely off of these games. It boggles my mind. So I guess Hischier's concerning compete level and taking games off isn't worth addressing because he performed well in specific games using unusual rosters?

I do get it. But man is it overvalued. People who literally have seen nothing more will rate and evaulate based on it. I will take 60 regular season games over 5 tournament games personally…

  12. Leaf fans didn't panic when Liligren had a bad first game but the Toronto media did, They started saying some negative stuff about him

  13. Spot on. I was at the Youngstars and watched Juolevi closely. His vision is outstanding. The only weakness I saw was with players breaking on him with speed. What I saw was him reacting to the forward instead of anticipating. It led to Juolevi waiting to long to begin his turn and in return getting turnstiled. But there is plenty to like about his game and lots to be excited about. Sadly, Vancouver fans have to be the most over reactionary in the league. We have a player here. He does not need to be "the guy" starting today.

  14. Juolevi needs games in professional league, not in juniors. He was frustrated when he had to play with kids this year. If and I say if he is not ready to nhl, he needs to go to ahl or finnish league for year. Then he is ready. Laine, Puljujärvi, Aho and Ristolainen played each at least one year as professional before going to nhl.

  15. Karlsson didn't solidify his defensive game until the 2015 season when he won the 2nd Norris. He's a lot better defensively now from when he was in 2015, but he was still fairly good at it. Even during his first Norris, he was mainly an offensive defenseman but a liability on the other end.

Took him 7 years, 9 if you wanna count when he fully developed his game to develop into a superstar defenseman from when he was drafted. The saying that "Defenseman take time" can't be more true.

  16. I'm not calling juolevi a bust but if I was a nucks fan, I'd much prefer to have any of tkachuk, Keller, nylander, sergachev, jost, mcavoy, or even chychrun.

  17. Biega as well just in case . Who actually expected him to play this year. He better not unless he blows everyone away in training camp. Let the kid develop .

  18. I was at the young stars tourney, game 2 was a mess because Irving got injured and McEwen. The team played with other guys they didn't know, but juolevi played a sound game against what he controls in front of him. What goes on around him can't, nothing to worry about he will still challenge for a canuck spot!

  19. Nothing to concern ourselves over. Juolevi will be given plenty of time to grow and he will be given every chance to make the team as a gamebreaker type player in the future. The players signed over this off-season are to help ease the transition for the younger prospects, so all this whining and panicking from fans and media is just simply ridiculous.

  20. I've always preferred Chychrun, Sergachev & McAvoy. Just more impactful players. Also Joulevi played on a super team in London.. But I think he will be fine in the end. Needs 2/3 years in AHL IMO.

  21. thats why i laugh when people call Haydn Fleury a bust just because he hasnt cracked the club yet

  22. I was a subscriber when you had like 30 something subs.. And seeing your channel just taking off the way that it has, is pretty god damn inspiring.. Thank you for the best Hockey Channel on Youtube.

  23. Dad dont tell people peer pressure is always alright. Dont smoke or drink kids listening! Save that money put it in a bank, and when your 25 you can buy a cheap house to start your rental empire lol

  24. So many haters in this city. Bunch of young kids running their mouths who haven't been around long enough to know jack shit about hockey. Couch GM's everywhere. Juolevi will be just fine. No need to piss yourselves over this.

  25. Your videos have become a part of my daily routine.
Do you think Vancouver should protect Petterson and play like they have 11 farwards ???
