I don't understand why people are surprised with the way the leafs play… they will never win a cup plain and simple. They have zero killer instinct! What is shocking though is that Shanny played such a different game… so how does he keep accepting this team playing like Charmin year after year??
Worse thing they did over the past 5 or 6 or whatever years is give an 80 point guy who had never won a playoff series 11.5 million a year .. Tavares is worth 8 maybe .. 2 good defensemen with that 11.5 would have made more sense .. Tavares has gone 3 games now with zero shots on net .. Plays with zero heart 💩

You're just coming to this realization now, Button? Most of us have known this for a while now. Back-to-back games against better teams, and they blow multi-goal leads. And this is after earlier in the year, blowing leads to teams like the Kraken and Flames and getting bailed out by the skills competition. The Avs were dressing 8 D due to not having enough healthy forwards, and they still came back and won.
And it's such a mystery why this team is not a Cup contender.
Button's right on the Button. Leafs are pretenders. Been watching this team for years and it's the same thing over and over again. Soft as cheese whiz. Keefe's comments getting stale and if they've tuned him out (if they ever tuned him in). Also, let's get it straight Mr. Button. The construction of the team around the core is largely limited because of all the cap space that's devoted to the core. Hence, they don't have that elite defenseman and will never be able to afford one. They don't have a bonafide starter and won't be able to afford one. And they don't have a good bottom 6, like a shutdown checking line.
Constantly trying to fill out the roster with bargain basement players is never going to be good enough to construct a cup contending team.
There's also the fact that this team is terribly soft and immature. How they played the Kings in LA should be the blueprint for how they play every game. But yet, they don't do that every game. That's on the core, who are the leaders of the team, and on the coaching.
