Far and I will say this early in the season was pretty much the worst of the worst and if they’re still in it which Min plx says 86.3% chance of making the playoffs really because the athletic in their standings they have the Devils below 50% now for the sake of clarity it’s at

49 but still it’s just like uh it seems like the athletic seems to have a different perspective compared to money Puck because does money Puck still have the Devils as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup actually now that you brought that up it’s actually Vancouver Vancouver Colorado Florida Carolina

Dallas and then New Jersey well the athletic has uh W I believe the Winnipeg Jets as their favorites to win the Stanley Cup which I don’t think is going to happen but uh that but I’ve been shocked before and this is not a jetz podcast so um so much for that

Thought well anyway the Devils have been dealing with a lot of injuries and courtesy of our buddy Giani New Jersey Devil he put this out on the XA so these are a list of players that have dealt with injury during the course of the Season these are players that are not

Currently out but these are players that have uh missed at least one game this season due to injuries so the first one on the list niiko heser remember he took a dirty cross check to the head against the Buffalo Sabers a couple months back

He was sideline for a few weeks due to a concussion Hughes he’s still out with his arm injury Elliot Freeman said that I that he believes that Jack will avoid surgery however Lindy ru does anticipate for Jack to be week to week and not miss months so if that’s any positive news

For Devil’s discourse there’s there’s what we got but and for anyone who’s on social media and you’re telling me like that’s nothing or that’s nothing that we already know or I’m sorry but hockey injuries are very vague they they don’t release details about it I wish I could

Tell you more but the reality of it is it’s week to week for a time being but just to be more positive uh the last two times that Jack has missed week to week the first time he missed four games the second time he missed five games so Jack

Is a quick healer we’ll see what happens so Jack Hughes dealing with his arm injury Sean ther he’s going to be missing some significant time broken foot that he sustained in the game against the Vancouver Canucks Tomasek foot surgery Eric Hala nagging injuries at the beginning of the year that have

Sidelined him from a couple games here and there douge Hamilton torn left pectoral muscle he’ll be out for most likely the season Teemo Meyer lower and middle body injuries uh I think Teemo is set to return soon according to Lindy Ruff we’ll see what happens Andre pilot

Hurt in practice he wasn’t uh at the devil’s more recent practice Kum Miller upper body Kur Lazar lower body Nico Daws uh before he uh started up in uica this season remember he had hip surgery that he had recover from so just a list of injuries that the Devils have been

Dealing with and people wonder wonder why the Devils aren’t as successful uh this season as they were last year well first and foremost it’s hard to top off a historical season because teams are more prepared for the devils and second off the Devils were just a healthy team

Last year like Jack Hughes didn’t really miss uh any time all that much niik heser he only missed one game uh Jer brat I don’t think he missed any games douge Hamilton he was rather healthy the Devils didn’t really deal with much injuries last year but this year it’s

Hard for them to be cohesive because it seems like whenever one player returns from injury another player is sidelined so I want to get your thoughts on the injury situation for Devils so far like where do they go from here well I’m looking at Daily face off right now so

Let’s take a look at what they project with the first line on forward it’s holla heer and brat okay I like that then you have tley Mercer and bashing bashing I think instead of bashing you should have Holtz but bash I could see a little bit because you want a little

Toughness but then you go down the third line you have holds on the side of Michael McLoud on the third line and Curtis Lazar Lazar fits that third bottom six roll you need speed crash and snipe ability so that’s good uh Shane Bowers two-way player he’s not going to Dazzle but he’s

Going to do all the Dirty Work good Puck Handler distributor tierd he’s more of like defensive forward then BR Smith the best player on that line besides Shane Bowers yeah so I’m looking at Daily face off right now so uh on their first line for devil they got Eric Holla niik heer

Jper brat um I I think that I think this actually will help niik heer in a big way because I think one of the main issues that people have been having with Nico heer or it’s not really Nico per se it’s more of like what Lindy’s been giving him is

Like Nico needs a Bonafide score on his line and that’s exactly what jper brat brings and that’s why I love the combination between Nico Andre and Jesper because it was physical Andre is pretty solid defensively Nico’s a great two-way player Jesper brat Bonafide score right and by the way the fact that

He is not higher up on the All-Star voting is just criminal at this point and I don’t know why he continues to be severely underrated despite him putting putting up big numbers don’t look now people but I Know Jack Hughes he’s well on the pace to possibly get a 100 point

Point this season if he could stop getting injured but Jer brat is not too far behind him in fact Jer brat might be on a better clip because J for brat doesn’t deal with injury as much as Jack Hughes but when he’s healthy brat is the best Winger we’ve had since Patrick OS

Retired if that makes any sense I mean guy could create assists but he’s more of a goal scorer now and if he stays a a long-term devil I wouldn’t be surprised if you were to Eclipse that it’s just something that I see in brat but can he really pull it off can

He be better than Kirk meller we’ll see what happens I think jesser brat still has a a ways to go before we talk about like alltime great Devils players but he’s really good and he deserves more attention I will give you that jesser brat is severely underrated and once again the fact that

He is not hir up on the allstar F voting is just criminal especially since he has a cult following thanks to to the brat pack mostly so um let’s look at the second line Tyler defley Dawson Mercer Nathan Bastion so like you said Nathan Bastion sort of a physical guy I guess

That can help out to fi immerser a little bit but depth options aren’t really all that much Curtis Lazar Michael McLoud Alexander Holtz um Michael McLoud severely underrated offensively I think he deserves a bigger promotion if you ask he’s a late bloomer he’s a late bloomer as a center and he’s

Really developed over time and Lindy ruff’s been the best coach for him minus all the other coaches that the devil’s had from uh John Hines so really well does that really tell you it takes the right coach to get the right player that’s already there to become better

Over time and statistically it’s showing and skating wise I see it yeah yeah so uh Michael McLoud very underrated he definitely deserves a lot more uh credit for what he’s been able to do this season um and also he’s on Pace to have the best Faceoff win

Percentage in a single season in NHL history like why is that not being talked about more because it’s a small factor that people Overlook for goals and assists and anything else yeah I agree with you okay fourth line Brandon Smith or as I like to call him

The Connor Bard killer uh Chris tyranny Shane Bowers we we’ll see what happens there but yeah uh Conor Bard uh speedy recovery it was revealed today that he had uh surgery to repair his uh his fractured draw and he should return to action in six to eight weeks I I kind of

Feel bad for the kid a little bit because he was actually going to become the youngest player in NHL history to participate in the star game and now that he’s injured I don’t think um that record is going to stand because while he is technically an Allstar he didn’t

Participate in it and I said it in one of my more recent episodes I think the allstar game it carries more weight for someone like Bard compared to someone like maybe Sydney Crosby Alexander oetkin Conor McDavid who you know been there done that they they’ve done their

All-Star games they might not care about it as much they probably just could would rather have the tit title being named to the All-Star team but you you know what I mean right it’s like Jack was named uh Allstar for the third time his career but does he really have to

Play he could just say Jesper you got it exactly so it’s funny because uh when I was in the Press Box at the presedential center recently I was actually talking to Jim Beringer a buddy of yours and also and also uh Christy flry we were all just talking about this

Saying like do the players actually legitimately care about going to the all-star game because I’m not sure if you saw the video of Oliver bork strand uh Dave haxel basically told him like Hey you’re gonna have to cancel your plans uh to San Diego because you’re

Going to Toronto to to play for the All-Star game you could just see the reaction in Oliver’s face like he did not care he was like how am I going to tell my wife this yeah they had plans so it’s like do I really want to do another business trip

No no no it’s just like I feel like I said I feel bad for him because it’s just like or I I guess you know it’s still cool to be named at Allstar but it’s just like you know it it’s just a little titular and I don’t think the

Fans care about as much but they’re going to shake it up this year so I’m really looking forward to that sort of like a selection on the day of of the game so we’ll we’ll see what happens I’m actually that’s actually gonna be exciting but but like I

Said I much rather the NHL have under 25 year olds playing the All-Star games rather than over 25 where it means less them I don’t I don’t really know promote the promote the you the Youth of the league at their best no no because then you’re going to get too many players who

Are under the age of 25 being named to all all stars when they theoretically don’t deserve it I think a lot of the older guys would be like like 20 or you’re gonna get like 10 20 year olds who don’t deserve to be named an All-Star or some guys that might be on

The Fringe of making it just look at by the votes I mean that’s what I do yeah I mean but still it’s just like the NHL is not really good at marketing itself in general so it’s just like when you have some when you have this All-Star game

It’s on like ESPN or TNT or wherever it’s going to stream on and yet and you have some people are trying to get into hockey and then you have to explain saying oh no this player is not the best player in the league or uh no this is

Not Conor McDavid this is not Alexander oetkin this is not uh Cindy Crosby this is not uh Patrick Kane this is not you know that’s none of those guys that’s just a a 20-year-old who’s appeared in a few games he’s a two-way player yeah no no

I well here’s the thing they should have certain amount of like players that are over 30 who are still very good but can’t just relim on namesake like name image likeliness of the player can’t just live off oh this player is very good for the Rangers yet they’re maybe the third line

Guy who’s not as good as the guy on the second line there so might not have the the guy from let’s say Tampa Bay that’s really good on the third line who’s producing more points than the guy across the Hudson it’d be a lot it’d be

A lot more interesting to kind of like change up the parameters I I think this is something we can definitely discuss in a future episode because we’re a few weeks away from the All-Star game but let’s get back on track to the devils and so we just named the the line

Combinations for the forwards and the defense it’s taking a big hit because you lost douge Hamilton see ther now Luke Hughes Shimon Nets Kevin Ball John Marino K foot now here’s the thing people are gonna say like oh douge Hamilton he was horrendous on defense Yona sealer he did little to nothing

Regardless of what you think of them as players both of them are big losses to the devils’s Blue Line because for this fact the Devils have lost their depth and you said this before the recording started which is the the Devils uh from this year compared to last year is like

Uh they they had good depth and they were able to stay healthy so their death was still intact and able to like go much further but now they’re going to be put to the test within these next few games because don’t look now look at the Metropolitan Division and I continue to

Say this even after a month of of of bringing this up on my show which is the Metropolitan Division is tight the only two teams that have decent separation are the New York Rangers who are in first place the Columbus Blue Jackets who are in last place so if if we’re

Like making a sandwich you already have your two bread pieces the the meat lettuce pickle condiment whatever you want to call it the the the middle part of the sandwich is still up for grabs and the Devils have a tough schedule uh these next three games because they got

To go against three Atlantic division teams the Tampa Bay lightning today when this episode goes live uh the Florida Panthers on Saturday then the Boston Bruins on Monday for a MAA matchup at 1 pm which I don’t really understand but uh there might I might be uh I need to

Look into that a little bit but anyway three Atlantic division teams and the Devils right now have 44 points but here’s the thing the capitals also have 44 points the Penguins also have 44 points so the capitals and Penguins both have won their more recent

Games so if both of them go on like three game win streaks and the Devils go on a three- game losing streak Devils will be second to last in the Metro despite having uh like 40 something points so where do the Devils go from

Here I think they need to make a a nice goalie trade but for what the goalie Market is very thin and you know teams are going to like exploit the Devils the best way they can because I think uh James Nichols reported this which was like teams are asking for Michael McLoud now

Obviously the devils are not going to trade away Michael McLoud no no way that that would be idiotic on their end but teams are going to say okay we’re not going to give you John Gibson if you’re not going to give us Michael McLoud because I said this the Anaheim

Ducks um the Anaheim Ducks are going to play hard ball for John Gibson I’m not sure who I was talking to this about I think it was uh Jim Beringer which is the Ducks are very tough negotiators so it’s just like it’s just like um if the Devils want John

Gibson then they might have to give up Michael McLoud but obviously no way that trade circumstance goes down and or would they have to give up Sheamus Casey I saw some fake trade package make its way on the XA and it involved Sheamus casy and a NHL NHL

Trade rumors. me okay that that was just chaotic I don’t believe in it no J James uh David pagata and James Nichols both debunk those rumors um saying that uh that that was completely false I’m going to try to bring it up but it was just

Like it made me spit out my drink and I’m just like wait what why would they okay so basically uh this person put out on the XF saying TSN is reporting that the doubles have an offer in place to acquire defensive Christopher tanv and goenda markstrom from the Calgary Flames

In return for Sheamus Casey a first round in the 2024 NHL entry draft and a second in the 2025 NHL entry draft David pagata the fourth period so that’s what that person said but the thing is like aren’t people aware of the the team o Meer trade that

Took place last season so that first round pick correct me if I’m wrong that’s a conditional first round pick I was just talking about that with the puck and pitchforks private DM earlier I I saw one guy mention trading a devil first round pick to get Noah Hanahan and I said

Look let let me just click on this one so as of February 26 2023 there’s a condition sharks will receive the 2023 first round pick and then conditions go if and it says if 2024 first is top 10 New Jersey doubles have the option to instead transfer their 2025

First so a trade for 2024 first round is currently off the table and reserved right so it’s not it’s way easier said than done when people say that or put that out there so once again David pagata uh was what the person on the X app basically said that the report

Linked back to David pagata of the fourth period and he responded on social media by saying he has no such claim uh so he debunked the rumors same with James Nichols but anyway people are going to play hard ball for the Devils I don’t think Tom f

Sherald is gonna fleece his way to a goalie this time around no I mean there there’s been a couple of trade proposals by Nick volan on pucks and pitchforks and I want to talk about those three you and I can both agree to disagree on some of them and the fir the

First one he brings up is Devils get Jacob markstrom okay and they give up the second round pick and zahar bikov I don’t think marrom is worth a second rounder but I do think he’s worth barov though I think okay for the second round I mean look it’s that or the

Devils are going to have to give up a roster player let let’s just face it and if if if last offseason proved anything I don’t think the Devils really give two craps about the the the anell draft at this point they still do they still do I

Don’t think they do I mean they’re good at getting underrated assets but I think the culture has shifted for the Devils which is get back to the playoffs right now you’re playoff hopes are are being held on to by a single string because it’s so tight and one losing streak can

Really put you in a very bad situation right so this is an inflationary price that they’re gonna have to pay yeah so if if that’s the price you’re gonna pay giving up a second rounder I’ll take that it beats giving up Michael McLoud it beat or Alexander Holz or Alexander

Holtz it beats giving up Sheamus Casey if if if it’s that if there’s a gun to my head and I said and that person said you have to choose one I’m choosing that second rounder because I think that has less value compared to Sheamus Casey Alexander Holtz and Micha McLoud debate

Along with New Jersey okay so it’s Noah Hanahan and Jak marrom go to New Jersey okay Anaheim Ducks re receive $2 million retained on markstrom’s contract okay and then the third round pick from Calgary okay in exchange to Calgary Lenny hamah this is where I come in okay you

Are not giving up on Lenny h the Finish T Foley is going to be a superstar you’re either giving up on him or you’re giving up on T Foley and tley may not be around if they can’t afford his contract okay that I will give you that

I will give you that okay is that it is that it or is there another so Lenny hamah was mentioned akir schme I’m not ready to give up on shme no no no no he he he’s he yes he’s going through a rut this season but would fire Dave rolski

First over anything the goalie coach is terrible okay before here’s Ro I’ll Chim in I’ll say this um I think Akira being sent down to UDA best thing that can happen to him because he had that pleasure of being sent down last year now people said like why is Akira being

Sent down last year why isn’t McKenzie Blackwood being uh sent down in favor of him well first and foremost Blackwood would have to clear through waivers and Ben Bernell of daily senal Sports he told me that Blackwood would not be eligible to play in any games unless

He’s doing a rehab assignment which he did do last year so My thing is like akir Schmid last year I think he had the benefit of being sent down so he can make some of those mistakes and that way it gets cleaned up when he gets back to

The NHL which is why I think he was so good in round one against the Rangers um but um this year obviously he was brought on to be 1 a 1B with with v and so he got sent down and I think I think it’s been a bit of a struggle for

Him in UDA but I’m okay with him making mistakes in UDA as long as he cleans it up when he gets to the NHL uh back on the roster but niik dos is doing pretty well but my thing is like um bring up the goalie coach we we’ll see about that that’s a

Discussion for another time but yeah I mean um if I had to get I I know contracts are involved and I know when Nick does these he’s very meticulous about it um yeah so I guess in this case I would say like well what about VTEC

Can’t you just give up VTEC instead of Aira but I guess in this case the contract wouldn’t work in this in this sort of aspect but um and and we’re missing on Nathan Bastion as and then to wrap it up okay the the Calgary Flames would receive a

2024 third rounder and a 2025 second round pick so if you remove jaho and schmeid and I’m not sure about giv a Bastion but you’re B I think you could sacrifice at this time he could come back on waivers yeah I mean Nathan Bastion didn’t work out for Seattle Kraken they

They waved him at one man’s TR as another man’s treasure but um I I would substitute ham naho for someone of let me think this out oh if defley doesn’t want to be here which he does which he does y I would then have to think about adding one of either uh daniil

Karpovich and or at in let’s say oh God this is really testy if I’m adding in a another player I’m just going to throw in a 2026 first round pick so go so basically going all in for so basically no more well here’s the thing I’m okay with giving up draft

Picks at this point I’m I’m perfectly content with it because in that package the Devils get markstrom and Hanahan correct yeah and hanahan’s worth over $7.5 million still and and Hanahan I wrote this in an article um him and lbushkin uh so from what Jim told me was that Fitzgerald is

Favoring uh getting Noah Hanahan over to New Jersey a Hanahan misss being out east and B we need a really good left-handed defenseman who can be a good two-way player and someone reliable on the back end meanwhile toet Gerald has a thing for Hockey East people

And there there there’s a little bit of that ret Trend there but he’s been a reliable player he’s been with a couple of teams throughout his career and I really like hannahan as a player I just think you know he’s a better uh younger defenseman than let’s say uh Chris

TANF but my thing is if Anaheim is going to be a tough uh negotiation that that probably means ilushin is out for a really big sasquash defens but right-handed version of zadorov I mean yeah that that I mean Anaheim will play hard ball there’s no

Ansis or buts about it so we’ll see how that happens but I think when it comes to hard ball it might just involve John Gibson I don’t I don’t really know but basically I’ve been talking with all sorts of Devil’s content creators while I was at the credential Center out east

And basically um we were having these discussions which is um and I won’t reveal names or Association but it was basically like what do the Devils need a goalie or a defenseman like what do they need and it’s at this point it’s just a matter of like

Um it’s just a matter of like who can they get first that’s the thing so I think in this case getting a defenseman will be easier for them because the goalie Market is so thin now if somehow someway if Tom fer is able to get Noah hanen and also Jacob markstrom onto this

Roster then A+ for Tom feral he found a way to at least help fix the devil’s issues a little bit but if I’m being realistic I think the the uh suitable Target for the Devils for what they can offer for a goalie you might have to look at your divisional rival the

Columbus Blue Jackets for Elvis M Lincoln I I’ll be honest Elvis is a really good goalie he does have a few Antics here and there but you know what he is passionate he is aggressive in net it’s not like he gives a fluky goals a lot but he is definitely a more proven

Goalie than VTEC vanich I mean but not as wild as him not as wild but at the same time is Elvis really that much of an upgrade like uh yeah I don’t think you see this is why I I prefer getting things outside the division this is yeah it to be he’s not

Worth trading for but at the same time the Devils don’t want to give up much for a goalie they don’t want to give up Michael McLoud they probably don’t want to give up a roster player period they probably don’t want to give up a high-end Prospect like Lenny hamino or Sheamus

Casey so that might so how can they get a cheap goalie you might wa I’m sorry it’s probably the only way that they’ll ever do somewhat good value trade right so you probably just have to give up I don’t know what what can you give up the the for

Him I don’t think the Blue Jackets would go for that but um they probably want like someone who’s maybe lowrisk but could be High reward I don’t know and maybe a prospect that the Devils don’t really care that much about maybe might be yaka mik I don’t think that

Low I’m just throwing his name out there because he definitely has potential to come over but I think Cole Brady would be a player that they would definitely be interested in oh I kind I saw I I love I like Cole Brady though I I liked what he brought at development Camp

Quite honestly yeah he’s he was really good uh but one of the things is will his stuff from UMass be able to translate over to New Jersey and will he be able to come up through the ranks and make it out and you’re looking at a

Couple of Seasons so my thing is you know guys coming out of the NCAA D1 route it’s like jumping the AHL almost but for most guys who are goalies it’s a little harder I don’t know I I I I I feel like Cole Brady is someone that I was

Actually excited to potentially uh see see play for Devils but obviously we’ll we’ll we’ll see what happens but and by the way Cole Brady uh his previous school was Arizona State so uh for up he was yeah uh by the way Joey dord uh doing pretty well with seatt Kraken just
