So it seems one of the names thrown around here (Markstrom) isnt available barring a “massive” offer. I think if Fitz was willing to pay a massive price (Mercer, Casey, 1st rd pick) it would have been done by now.

Cant say I am saddened by this, Markstom is having a great year on a meh team but his age and term give me pause for the same reason Gibson does. Wheels can always fall off at any time with goalies and that only becomes more likely the more miles they have on em.

I still want Vejmelka from Arizona. Dont see them trading Ingram with the year he is having, Vejmelka is a buy low candidate you dont have to part with premium assets for. Weekes recently posted a cryptic tweet about Merzlikins from the jackets, but given that is inter division I can see that price tag being higher than we would like.

The cheap solution is Daws being him but that is a lot to ask and as we saw last year, younger unproven guys can have consistency issues at the worst times.

We also cant realistically have Vitek starting half the remaining games barring a huge turnaround. He is statistically the worst goalie in the NHL right now.

What do you want to see Fitzy do?

Theyre lucky if they get Nemec alone nonetheless Nemec +.

Dude, not worth a massive price. Honestly, objectively speaking, anything is better than Vanecek

I’d rather them go for Elvis than overpay and lose a piece that hurts. Elvis is a prime change of scenery candidate, but at the very least will be a step up worst case scenario.

So then we just don’t trade for a quality goalie. Markstrom isn’t worth more than a mid tier prospect and a 2nd (or a low 1st rounder). Let’s roll with Daws and waive Vitek if things continue you as they are. I’m good with calling Schmid back up, but would want a veteran backup on the cheap (for a 2nd or 3rd rou d pick). I know it means someone like Kakhonen with no remaining years on the contract. That way, if he implodes, you just waive him too and roll with Daws/Schmid.

Daws looks too good to not at least see where we’re at in a few weeks. No rash moves please

  6. Bahahaha. The most they should pay is a 2nd or 3rd and probably Seamus Casey or Leni.

No thanks. Just ride it out. Not at all interested in trading a serious young prospect or player on this team. Holtz would give me major pause, Nemec or Mercer you gotta be out of your fucking mind.

This is not an end of a championship window/all in time. Just be patient.

I get it, i just find it funny to read calgary acting like theyre such an attractive spot they wont dare approach markstrom about moving him… because any player in calgary must be so happy, content, and comfortable there, you know, in such a classy renowned culture where big names rarely leave. That they wouldnt even ask him about a trade unless its for a mcdavid mackinnon matthews. Lol. I know, i know, i get it. He has a nmc and any smart gm is going to really dig in like that n try to get as much as possible especially for a decent player at a position of such high demand.

Markstrom wouldn’t even be worth what they’re asking if he was 10 years younger

Teams with good goaltending usually need a really good reason to move on from that, and that’s why the devils won’t be upgrading massively on VV this year. In no position to be moving important roster players, especially the cheap ones. This season has a coin flip chance to get tanked by goaltending ( and injuries), but that’s just the risk they have to ride out. There is a long term goal in mind still, and the next 3-5 years are more important than this year.
