Elliotte Friedman on the Jake Guentzel, the Canucks plans and more
Hockey Night in Canada Insider Elliotte Friedman joined the guys and talked about possible interest in Jake Guentzel, the Canucks deadline plans and more.
No to Jake Guentzel. Canucks have the OEL cap hit to deal with and are always at the cap ceiling, so we cannot afford to keep him long term. Also Jake plays with Crosby so how good is he without Crosby. So no to selling our feature on any rentals period. If we can get a piece, even a young guy for Kosmenko do it lower the cap a bit as we can more effectively use cap in the off season. By the way when does over paying at the deadline ever work???
Little Johnny Gaudreau, has his whole life ahead of him, with more money to spend in his lifetime, and can live anywhere from age 35-80, but living in Columbus for maybe 4 months a year over living in Calgary for 4 months a year…what a little pu**y. โ๏ธ
My opinion is no to Guentzel because the price is just too high, I don't think it is wise to sell the future to get this guy. No disrespect to Guentzel ofc because he's a very good player but I feel it's just not the right move to give up valuable assets whether it be a first rounder and good prospects I just don't think we should do that now.
I'm kind of worried about putting up our main prospects for a rental, but it would really be nice to get something big for a playoff push. I think Podz might be available but I really hope he's not. Raty, Klimovich, Bains and Sasson however I think I could stomach moving. And I guess our 1st pick this year will be late so I can live with that.
Guentzel would be a good rental. Give up a first and Podkolzin and away you go. If the Canucks win the cup itโs more then worth it and if they donโt at least they tried and who cares a late first round pick and a low end prospect are gone.

THE Jake Guentzel
While jake is a great player is he worth gutting the future and is he the thing that will push us over the top or is that answer a centre ?
1:35 Not if you remember why he signed there in the first place… It was a bad team when he arrived.

I'm surprised the entire show today wasn't just Donnie and Rick watching the Canucks game.
