How Hyped Should We Be About Celebrini?

He’s likely to go #1 overall in June, so how big a star will this player be?

  1. Celebrini and Bedard play a similar style of hockey. Relying on a deceptive lightning quick release, that's highly accurate and they're able to dangle all over the ice. However, neither of them remind me of Martin St. Louis, which is how you actually have to play when your tiny. They can try to dance all over the ice, but eventually they'll walk into a brick wall and break bones, as we've seen with Bedard. Not my type of player.. but for the people who want the refs to win them games, I'm sure that they will be all the rage.

  2. People getting excited about Celebrity being a Shark or Blackhawk need a reminder that Anaheim sucks, too. šŸ˜

  3. Celebrini and Eiserman are the two i'm really interested in in this draft class so far. Celebrini looks like he's gonna be an amazing all around player, and Eiserman looks like an amazing finisher with a fantastic shot who's a one dimensional player, it's always facinating to watch if those kinds of players can adapt to the NHL well or not.

  4. About as hyped as Shane Wright should have been. Yall talked about him like gospel. Like he's good, but hes not build a whole team around top 10 in the league guy. And we need to stop treating #1 picks that way.

  5. As a Ducks fan I don't want to sound too greedy, but its potentially super nasty what could happen if the Ducks draft Celebrini. Potential lineups of:

    Zegras Carlsson Gauthier
    Celebrini McTavish Terry

  6. Can someone please explain why the NHL drafts players so young? It seems like itā€™s way more of a crapshoot than it needs to be. Fans have to wait, bodies need to fill out, skills need to developā€¦when you could just wait a few years and enter the draft when you intend to play in the NHL the following seasonā€¦
There could be guys like Bedard, granted exceptional status but why not wait til 21-22 when you have a way better idea as to what kind of player theyā€™ll be?

  7. Celebrini isnā€™t a generational talent like Bedard. So letā€™s just get that out of the way. He definitely still has a ton of potential though.

Iā€™m thinking like 75-85 point potential with a solid two-way game. Thus, he has franchise number one centerman potential for sure.

Donā€™t think heā€™ll ever be a superstar like top 20 player in the league where heā€™s putting up 100+ points a season. Definitely not. But heā€™s going to be a great player.

San Jose would be best. They need players like that. They have Will Smith, but they most need Celebrini.

  8. As a Sharks fan, I hope it is San Jose. I am good with Anaheim getting him if the Sharks do not.
I also hope that Chicago does enough in the second half that they are not in the running for first overall. If they get the #1 pick two years in a row, I am sure the uproar would be deafening.

  9. For some reason he gets underrated. He is a sensational first overall choice, better than a lot of the recent seasons

  10. I feel like Anaheim will have enough trouble signing all of these top level toung guys in 2-3 years… san jose does really seem like the natural fit

  11. two consecutive 1st overall picks are from the same city? Berdard and Celebrini are both from North Van!

  12. I watched every game of Jonathan Toews NHL career and at his absolute peak from age 20 to 25 (2008 – 2013) He was arguably the best all around player in hockey. Celebrini reminds me of Toews in his draft year. I watched Celebrini play in person with the Chicago steel last year, and he just dominated the US U18 program with 6 first round draft picks on it.

  13. had the pleasure of watching him play multiple times this season. it's VERY apparent when he's on the ice, even though he's competing against high-caliber talent. he's responsible in his own end and plays well with possession, like a krejci.

  14. BU season ticket holder here: Everything Shannon said is spot on. Mack is a creative playmaker with a lethal one-tee when the puck is in his wheelhouse. He's very responsible in his own zone seeing some PK time and is unafraid to block shots. His faceoffs are okay and will probably improve with added strength. Also, The San Jose tie is even stronger with BU alum Mike Grier as GM.

As for the other guys mentioned – Aiden looks solid and is developing well BU is overloaded with right-shot D so sometimes he has to play his off side. There's an occasional hiccup but fore the most part he seems unbothered. Graf does have a higher PPG but he plays in the ECAC which is a weaker conference than Hockey East. BU's strength of schedule is currently ranked 2nd in the country. Quinnipiac's is 15th.

  15. American here. I couldn't watch the actual World Jr. Games, but I saw extended highlights and I was very impressed with Celibrini. He seemed to be driving the play for Canada all the time. He'd be my choice for #1, for sure. I heard an announcer who asked a scout what Celebrini's ceiling was, and the scout thought Brayden Point. Not bad, I guess (lol). I'm thinking maybe Patrice Bergeron. I'd like either version for my team.

  16. Personally I donā€™t want to compete against him in the pacific and Chicago speaks for itself. Go Jackets!

  17. Im scared that hes gonna have a Jack Hughes kinda season. WJC sure he looked aight but his numbers werent great. I think he could have a hard time translating like Mackinnon or Hughes in year 1. Still will be a stud but you know what i mean.

  18. Eklund is our Nylander, Smith is our Marner, Celebrini will be our Tavares, and McKenna will be our Matthews

  19. Iā€™m a CBJ fan and would love to get the pick. But my excitement to get the pick would be less than loathing if Chicago gets the pick.
