Was just listening to some guys talk about Montréal in all likelihood going to deal Sean Monahan leading up to the trade deadline.
He wants to win and go to a competitive team and if not, have his choice and probably wants term 3-4 years. They said the floor is a 3rd round pick and a B prospect, but in all likelihood a 2nd round pick\*\* would do it.
Chevy happens to have acquired one of those alongside Vilardi, Iafallo, and Kupari for PLD. Crazy to think that in all likelihood we will add someone else pretty significant to that list whether it’s Monahan or someone else.

I’m not super familiar with him as a player, but MTL fans seem pretty high on him. He is sitting at 25 points in 43 games. Would he be worthy of 2C? Veteran guy could probably play up and down the line up over the next few years as the next generation comes up if necessary?
I have reluctantly gotten excited about this team and I am dying to know what Chevy is going to do.

I always liked Monahan. Always reminded me of Scheifele. Before the injuries that is.
Unfortunately it just seems he’s injury prone now.
I’d rather get Josh Anderson from Montreal. Him and Lowry on a line would be an absolute force.
Doesn’t exactly scream going all in.
He’d be fine for depth but he’s not displacing Vladdy at 2C imo. He’s having a bit of a bounce back season though and appears to finally be healthy for the first time in years. The cap hit is right in Chevy’s bargain bin wheelhouse though so might as well order the jersey now lol.
Would Stanley/Chisholm and the Kings 2nd rounder be enough? I don’t really want to give up someone like Lucius or Chibrikov for him.
Positives
– reliable face off man (an area for improvement for the Jets)
– has re-established himself since moving to Montreal
– affordable contract (leaving room to add to the d or bottom of the line up depth)
– has taken on increased pk role (an area of need for the Jets)
– can play almost anywhere in the forward group
– good skater
– usually reliable 200ft player (fits current team MO)
– provides needed centre depth
Negatives
– injury prone
– he’s 29 (so wouldn’t want to go long term or anything)
– well below 50% xgf last two years

Career back around. Wasn’t long ago the Flames had to burn a 1st just to get his contact off the books. I would love to see him as a rental (the sooner the better to acclimate with the team) especially if he can be got for a 3rd and a B level prospect. Maybe even for a 2nd and a late pick in return? Idk about resigning him though. I would want to see how he fits and if he can hold up health wise first.
As long as the cost isn’t much, you can’t have enough depth at Center
I think a lot of fans believe competitive teams “need” to add if we have a shot at going deep in the playoffs but I’d say this team, more than any other Jets team in the past, is all about chemistry. We’re more than the sum of our parts. Adding any player might throw off the balance and we need to restock our farm system more than trade away someone like McGroarty or another prospect just to pick up a rental or a bandaid like Monahan
The best option would be Mittelstadt, but he would probably cost a lot since he is still an RFA at the end of the year. I think it would be better to go for Henrique than Monahan.
Edit: just checked the difference in cap hit and Monahan is definitely the better option after seeing that.
He’s fragile
Funny how that 2nd rounder from LA was originally Montreal’s. Monahan’s trade to Winnipeg would complete the circle.
I think we have to aim higher. We should go after Crosby. He has two years left on his 8.7 AAV. We can handle that. This will give us two swings at the cup. The Pens are going into a rebuild next year and I’m sure Sid wants nothing to do with that. This is his chance to bring the cup to Canada. I think the cost will be steep. A first, Perfetti, and McGroarty will probably be the ask. We will probably need to move a D, too, in order to make room…..DeMelo? This IS our time
Lindholm would be first choice (would cost more), but I Like Monahan at 2C as well (if he gels, could sign a reasonable extension). I’d like them to make a move soon, be nice to be the first out of the gate in improving the team.
Can you get Monahan for Stanley? If so, do it. If not pass. I wouldn’t trade a high second for him.
Has he been a part of a strong playoff run?
if it’s a 2nd for Monahan, i’d almost rather just pay the 1st+ for Lindholm if only to prevent Colorado or Dallas from landing him
Not a good enough add. If it’s cheap depth sure.

I don’t watch a lot of the Habs but from an advanced stats perspective Monahan is getting caved this season. I’d rather have someone who can drive the bus.

I don’t see the Jets paying for a guy like Lindholm, but as others have mentioned, I don’t want to see in traded in the Western Conference either. Given Chevy’s willingness to go after guys with a bit of term I’d be curious to see if they can fit Claude Giroux in. He can still score, win draws, and provide a some leadership in the top 6.
