Today we’re going over the panoply of Nils Hoglander-related discussions that have been taking place amongst Canucks fans as of late. The fact is, he’s most likely going to be making his way to Vancouver soon, and that in itself is exciting.

However, I’ve been seeing a huge trend amongst many Vancouver Canucks fans that are projecting Hoglander towards having an Elias Pettersson-like rookie season with the team, which, in my opinion, is absolute bollocks.

Related to this discussion, let’s talk about how Canucks fans can and will overrate the team’s top prospects, using Pettersson’s former linemate with the Timra IK and current San Jose Sharks top prospect Jonathan Dahlen as an example.

  1. Canucks overrating prospects?

    all I hear is:
    – Alex Romanov
    – Cole Caufield.

In general, how are these two not any more overrated. [Not a nab on the video, but Habs fans in general]

  2. I agree, but i do think if/when he makes the NHL his point production would be influenced by which line he's on and who his linemates are.
Getting stuck on a line with Roussel, Sutter, Erikkson or Beagle would not bode well for point production.
Sending him to the Utica (Moose) and then calling him up shortly after (like they did with Boeser) seems just as plausible as him making the team out of camp

  3. The main difference between Dahlen and Höglander is the attitude. They are both talented but Dahlen obviously prefer to play top minutes in allsvenskan compared to Höglander that play a middle 6 role in SHL. Höglander has a more unique style, he is more than those lacrosse goals. He is very speedy and could become a terrific 3rd liner in a few years. 30-40 p player….

  4. Hoglander Gaudette and Motte i would love to see in training camp. Motte can backup two offensive players. Maybe Nils isnt ready but he is a fighter so we will see.

  5. omg finally a video accurately describing vancouver’s biggest issue. video starts and it’s not about how over hyped hughes, peterson and boeser are

  6. I am hoping he can be a Burrows comparable. Hey under the skin of opposing teams and have offensive upside. If he makes the team this year it should be in the bottom six or on the taxi squad they will inevitably need.

  7. Unica Moose – Hoglander 15 goals 17 assists in a short season. on a 3rd line with Hockey Gaud and … Not too sure who will be on the other wing. I'd like Jake there for his size and speed , but his pass needs to get better. Adam is going to have a break out season, so who he plays with is in for a treat. I think if Hoglander can fit into the penalty kill role he has made the team.

  8. Utica MOOOSE lol. Tempered expectations. I see Hoglander being a good pro, he has a lot of the tools, but it has to translate, and sometimes that takes time. Wahlstrom as an example, was a kid who was called a hockey phenom who could do amazing things with the puck at a very young age, however he has yet to make any impact at pro. Not saying that is Hoglanders future, but I just personally feel that we have to let these kids develop at their own pace and not put too much pressure on them.

  9. Actually have never heard anyone compare him to Pettersson. I will say that he is a far better prospect than Dalen. Far stronger and far more edge and intensity. Only question is will he be a 3rd liner or 2nd liner. Maybe 1st, who knows.

  10. I'm not sure how to respond to this. I mean for the first 45 years in Canuck nation, there was little to no hype about guys in the system. So is this because we drafted poorly or didn't have the proper development systems in place? I think the answer is a bit of both, especially during some times where we didn't even have our own farm team for a few years and just got other teams to take a player here and a player there. There was ZERO development back then, as no rival NHL team is going to develop your prospects for you. And since we've improved our scouting, there are many more strong prospects in our system; either developing in College, Juniors, Europe, or the Utica Moose! LOL So are we overhyping our prospects, or are they finally showing some talent and drive to make the average fan salivate? Let's face it; before Benning and company arrived the cupboards were pretty bare. I guess we have been hoping for prospects worth getting excited about. Now if only we could dump these bloated, bottom 6 contracts…………..

  11. I wouldn't call this canucks fans overeating their prospects but my buddy is a pretty big canucks fan and he read somwthing about the KHL calling Podkolzin a "generational talent" so he took that and ran because I'm a Minnesota Wild fan who is very excited for Kirill Kaprizov and he never saw Kirill get called a generational talent

  12. Utica Moose. I see Hoglander being on the third line and pushing out MacEwan as Rousell falls to the thirdline. I like how Linus Karlsson is doing, but I think that we still gave up on Dahlen too soon…though he does seem to have attitude like Poolparty in Edmonton.

  13. honestly its hard to not overhype after the last three years, hughes, pettersson, boeser of great rookies
