Nothing can turn things around. Isles are trending down. Outside of acquiring a scorer to go with 13/14 which is near impossible that could give isles the boost they need what else can be done? This team lacks overall talent and doesn't have good enough depth or call up re-inforcements to overcome injuries. Even tho isles do seem to play better for awhile when injuries hit. Younger hungrier guys with young legs add youthful enthusiasm for a few games. Then reality sets in and you realize career ahl'ers are that for a reason and not the answer. And could calling up ishkatov be the solution? Better get the memo to louzer cause hell will freeze over before that happens. His cap mismanagement and total disregard for the cap and how to operate/rosterbate under a cap is to blame for this. The only question is how bad second half will be and will lame-0 coach make it to the end.
And wings are now red hot and will be active at tdl. det. will get in. pens, tb can't do anything tdl. sabres too far out to matter. laffs and nj in on markstrom. Usually 5 of 8 playoff teams per conference return to playoffs next year. b's, fla, rags, car, a given. tb will probably get in. laffs too. flyers enter. With wings in that is the 8 spots. Meaning isles will be in a battle with pens, caps, nj outside of 2 w c looking up at the rest. My guess-isles fall behind above to 12 and battle just to stay ahead of buff., habs, bj's and sens at bottom of east. Which would put isles around 10-11 in draft if louzer keeps the first. And caps, tb won tonight.
It's funny how missing a 4th line center can screw the line combinations up so much. With Casey out of the lineup, this forward group looks like a different team. Also, I thought getting Pelech back on defense would really make a huge difference, but obviously he hasn't found his game yet.

Gil, we know senile Lou isn’t calling up iskhakov unless there’s a bunch of injuries. Look how long he waited on Maclean. I expect him to play well he’s a Casey clone. Probably the reason u don’t give fourth line centers six year deals. Lame needs to sit Martin and clutter permanently. Just like Bailey last year. We know that it was a mistake to resign both of them. God forbid the fossil resigns them again like Stefan Rosner just said. SMH Someone tell Lou this isn’t 1990 and the new nhl is speed,skill, and YOUTH!
Good morning team. Gil, very informative and great ideas. Although, I can almost guarantee, nobody in the Islanders organization has those same thoughts. We certainly give up WAY too many shots to our opponents, AND will they give Iskhakov a shot?? More speed is something I'm sure the team can make good use of. I would love to see it. I have doubts it will happen though. Blackhawks tonight. Can we hope for a different result? I would say the Blackhawks are a team we should get 2 points from, but I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong, at some point, again. We'll see. Everyone have a great day and weekend! I like Iskhakov. Id like to see Brock to 1st line LW with Bo n Barzy. Ruslan 2nd line Center with Lee and Palms. Fasching Pageau and Holmstrom. And if the kid Kyle plays well maybe he can play wing when Casey comes back. Like to see Gauthier in 4th line with Kyle n Clutter for now. That should help
Casey is so much more than just a 4th liner. Without him its a special teams mess. The pp kill is a huge deal on a team that takes dumb penalties. Coaching is key to get most out of players that lets face it aren't so good. Look at Philly. So if lane remains the team fails. There's no way around it. It shows he's lost the team and Lou of all people should know that. Bubble team bullshit again!
You can definitely do that if they fall out of the race. I still see them dealing Sorokin or Varlomov to get someone who can score and stick with Appleby. This Chicago game would be a good time to try it.
Nobody should be surprised. Mostly the same roster, always the same results. Lou needs to sell at deadline. I'm 💯% sure some of these teams that are a lock for postseason play would LOVE a Mayfield, JGP, (dare I say) Nelson, Palmieri, a PELECH or Pullock, Can we sucker a team into Taking Captain Average Anders??? Imagine the cap space we'd have! This drastically needed roster turnover should start now while Sorokin, Dobson, Barzal, Horvat, Holmstrom, Romanov are still young. We have young guys now that can make up the 4th line, we have 2/3 of a dangerous 1st line, a World class goalie and a young legitimate 1st pairing RD and LD. Not to mention one of those Dmen is looking like a generational talent. This isn't an impossible task! If done correctly, we could be a team like TBL or CAR or VGK…. To me, that's worth (maybe) having a few lean seasons.
