And that’s what I love about this team. If this was last year’s team before Rick Tocchet took over the Canucks would have 100 percent lost this game. But they bounced back. Demko was terrific in the third period, and the power play, which has been struggling, came out big after giving up the shorthanded goal. This game wasn’t an oil painting by any stretch but they did what they needed to do.

Watched the highlights and wow they looked much better in the third period. Second period was just garbage and I’m glad Tocchet lit a fire under their asses to get going.

Not worthy of its own post so I’ll throw it here:

Sawyer Mynio (our other 3rd round draft pick d-man this last summer) is now 2nd in team scoring with 31 points in 33 games.

He was thought of as a purely defensive d-man when he was drafted and had some people shaking their heads at the pick.

Well, guess what? *Apparently he’s not just a defensive d-man*. His skating is also excellent, and he processes the game really well.

At the combine, he checked in at 6’1” and 162 pounds…

So…when he gets to 190-ish pounds, his game really has the potential to jump dramatically.

Willander has 5 points in his last 5 games (12 in 19 games overall).

From this last draft, we have 3 absolute stud d-men prospects (Willander, Brzystewycz and Mynio).

Then, you add in EP(D), and we suddenly have 4 young stud d-men prospects in the system.

Again, maybe it’s just me and I’m reading too much into it, but he goes out of his way to say:

‘*Hoggy has been spending so much extra time practicing, and in the video room, and he’s being rewarded for it. If there weren’t so many penalties he would probably have seen his most ice time in any game tonight*….’

I think ^ those remarks are very pointed, and directed towards one player in particular. It’s also why Rutherford said:

“*we’ve* done everything *we* can do for Kuzmenko…’

Anyways, always love to hear coaches analysis post game. What stands out is him saying:

‘*Last year when we’d feel pressure we’d start doing some stupid things. Things that aren’t our game*’.

‘*I don’t like it when we start to carry the puck back into our end to re-group when the plays not there. That’s not Canucks hockey. We don’t do that. But they were starting to do that again in the 2nd so I called the timeout*.’
