Nine Games Against Strong Teams: January 11-27.
IMO, we should be calling this “The Sheldon Watch”
5 of 14 possible points earned to date, that’s about 36%. Just awful.
I’m still on the #fireKeefe streetcar, but I guess he gets a ride home on the charter from the west. The chemistry that is built around his leadership of this team just isn’t going to get it done.
Two big ones this week against the high-flying Jets who are always amped to play us. Next Sunday morning we will know how jacked we can be for the rest of the season.
Haven’t watched a game since the Islanders win. I feel like I’m not missing much, but missing enough to know that I’m the most sane person in this subreddit right now.
But Auston Matthews, babbbbby.
Samsonov’s getting praise for his performance, and rightfully so; he had some big highlight saves. Really happy with this performance from him. And Nicky Bobby getting a goal after that stretch of scratches feels nice. Hopefully Keefe keeps him in for a bit and he keeps getting good chances.
However, Jake fucking McCabe had a hell of a game, too, holy shit. Setting the tone early by defending Lily, and delivering a good beatdown too. Then, on one of Sammy’s big saves (the one where he takes 2 or 3 shots to the right pad back to back), McCabe slides in net and presses his body flush to the post to provide more cover just in case, which was a good play. Takes a puck to the knee and is right back out there next shift. And of course, the empty netter snipe to put the game out of reach. Were it not for Sammy, that’s a McCabe game belt in my book.
He’s been really good lately as a whole, trucks the fuck out of ‘em like a champ, but the past few games, he has like, one bad play or goof each game that lead to a goal (most notably the overtime one). Beyond that, he’s been really fuckin solid. Definitely love having him around.
Also, fucking Simon Benoit continues to impress. That stick catch on the rush back and getting there in time was fucking beautiful. If Treliving does not sign him to an extension, I will fucking riot. He’s a fucking champion.
I’m happy for Sammy but this was not a game to say we’re back. Seattle had a lot of their regular roster players not playing and we had our best lineup. The real test will be against the Jets.
