Sorry I didn’t hear his message. I had my two Stanley Cup rings in my ears.

I appreciate that Patrick’s “shaved” face is like me when I do it, quick buzz with the trimmer at 0 and leave a solid stubble. He wasn’t feeling like going full razor like Lou wanted him to. Just seems like a quick solution rather than full buy in to the no facial hair rule. If that makes sense! (slightly rebellious)

Is it too late for him to coach the leafs
this_name_not_that
He won’t last more than two seasons before getting the boot.

At least they will have good goaltending. No j/k, I’m actually pumped to see him back in the league. All the best Coach Roy (Ru-aw to the uninitiated). And as a Bruins fan from Boston, he was always a terror to play. You didn’t know if you were going to score a goal against him or even get close. Its like he became superman when ever we played.

Wasn’t this the approach Trotz also had with the NYI? They were lethal, you couldn’t sleep on them cos’ suddenly they pushed offensive zone after two periods of getting pinned down

So his message to absolutely no one ?
Whiskeylung
There’s something that’s just not clicking in NYI and I bet they’ll figure out. They have a great team.

He’s a hothead. This is going to be fun to watch. Didn’t he have a big blowup when he coached in the juniors?
YallinDenial
I think that’s what we all what.
Doesn’t matter if they don’t win the cup, just give us good hockey.

Actually, being 10+ million over the cap or even higher wins you the Stanley Cup.

I mean he’s right, D wins championships but D doesn’t seem to be the Isles’ problem (not that I get to watch lots of their games, so I could be wrong). Also look at Carolina or NJ – a purely shut down game that tries to bleed teams to death isn’t going to win any cups (on the opposite end of the spectrum look at Edmonton). Vegas won last year bc they were tighter than hell in their D zone, and relentless in the O zone – the game is about balance.
That said, big ole Patty Roy is a great coach that knows his shit – if he’s running a D oriented game, I trust he knows how to do it right

Honestly this fits with the Islander’s already established style of play. Get a goal ahead and then completely shut down the neutral zone. Stingy defensive play has been quintessential Islander strategy. Interested to see how Roy makes changes but continues focus on defense first. The neutral zone trap is too easily trumped by a fast and well conditioned team who can effectively dump and chase and then cycle you to death.
