A Look At The Biggest Second Half Storyline For The San Jose Sharks

With the San Jose Sharks kicking off the second half of their season, what are the biggest storylines to watch for? Let’s start with the biggest story of the season: the injury bug. Can the Sharks find some luck with their injuries and start to get healthy? With Logan Couture set to return soon and Nico Sturm eventually coming back, can the Sharks put their young players in a position to succeed with veteran leadership? Then, which players will be traded at the NHL Trade Deadline, review their contract statuses, and look at who is available to be traded and who will probably be playing elsewhere by the end of the season. Then, which of the prospects will get NHL games this year, and why Danil Gushchin and Shakir Mukhamadullin are near locks to play games? Finally, can the Sharks finish the job and secure the number one puck in the draft?

  1. My tin foil hat says they’re jumbling lines in order to not get chemistry going… Eklund + Granny + Zetterlund would be a great line, Ekkie can play w/Hertl on PP but not ready for top line yet in his dev

  2. @Rick Gray from the live thread: No chance we send Vlasic out to another team. Buyout is possible but the cost to dump his contract is likely multiple firsts and we need those assets. Definitely not something that offsets low returns in another deal.

  3. The way the Sharks have been playing I have a hard time picturing teams trading with the them at the deadline. It’s a very long season.

  4. Vlasic is the perfect example why NHL contracts are too long. These older underperforming players are hurting teams and fan enjoyment. Teams like Toronto could be choking on their 8 year contracts in 4 to 5 years. Players get old, injured.

  5. Couture getting hurt is another good example of why long term contracts hurt teams. What are they paying him? $6M to $8M a year for nothing? If you get hurt and can't play after some time, teams should be able to reduce your salary or at least not take a Cap Hit. Maybe convert a contract to a non-player position like a scout, coach, announcer etc.

  6. Had a dream that’s Sharks win tonight 5-4 in OT 🤫🤫🤫 we’ll see if it happens!!!!
