Gomery I think uh you know as the reigning Jack Adams winner his performance as Boston Bruins head coach this season has been even more impressive than last year I think he even admitted that you know uh it was a fairly nice role to come into with such

A loaded roster last year a lot more challenges this year but uh he’s been pushing the right buttons uh so far for sure and the Bruins you know they had a a bit of a 4 game slide heading into Christmas since then they’ve only lost one game in

Regulation and um a lot of guys have been chipping in they’ve had a bunch of injuries recently with Brandon Carlo having been out Derek forbort was out for a while rookie Matt ptra was out guys just uh have been stepping up um Don Sweeney back in the summer you

Know he signed James Van reamde to a one-year $1 million contract he’s fifth on the team in total points at the moment uh Danon Heinen who was signed to a PTO and wasn’t even under contract for you know the first several weeks of the Season he had a hattrick in the game

Against Montreal so they’re getting contributions up and down the lineup and uh Charlie Coyle as well he has been fantastic as their new kind of de facto well one two Center depending on which line you you put him on with Pavo zaka as the other guy he’s on Pace for a

Career season and uh on Pace to have more points than Patrice bueron did last year uh filling in that role so they’re just getting contributions up and down the lineup and uh yeah they’re one of the surprise teams of of the season so far far in my mind wanted to talk about

Coyle I was going to ask you about him I mean he just always seems to have been an unsung kind of a hero no matter where he played if you didn’t follow the team he was playing for you were like Charlie who but if you watched him game in and

Game out even when he wasn’t near the top of the scoring list he was contributing every day what has he meant to the Bruins I mean he his uh his presence has been huge I mean he he was a pretty highly touted guy coming up he

Was so well thought of that uh you know he was traded for Brent Burns uh back in the day and he has uh really settled in as a core member of the team over the past few years they you know they traded for him back before the 2019 run uh he’s

A local guy he’s yeah very unheralded not really known as an offensive guy but in that role this season he’s stepped up uh plays a solid game well resp respected in the room loved by Bruin’s fans uh and yeah a really kind of quiet presence uh on the ice and off the ice

But just really seems to get the job done and and clearly he uh he meshes well with head coach Jim Montgomery he’s he’s taken on these new responsibilities and again the Bruins really haven’t missed a beat after losing Patrice Bon and David Cree that was the huge question could Charlie

Coyle and Pavo zaka uh lock things down down the middle for this team and they certainly have so far and it’s uh it’s been great to watch for sure got to ask you about pasta I mean he’s on at least a 50g goal Pace as of right

Now what has he been able to do sort of to be the man on this team offensively this year yeah I mean this was a big topic on uh locked on Bruins last week uh the locked on NHL hosts did a a vote for heart trophy C Cates and David poso

Was outside the top 10 which to me was just inconceivable uh he’s one of the top three scores he’s on Pace to uh eclipse the career high he set last year uh and that’s without berser on Cree in the lineup centers that he has played with his entire career and his goal pace

Is a bit lower than last year but his assist rate is up as well which tells us that uh he’s helping facilitate the offense uh which is you might not have thought back in the day when he first came up that he would be kind of this

Complete player uh for me he’s at least a top five MVP candidate uh he’s one of the elite players in the NHL and he is uh more than living up to that contract extension that he signed last year and uh really uh he’s on Pace right now he

Just entered top 10 in Boston Bruins scoring already he’s on Pace to finish at least top three um and just becoming one of one of the great Bruins of this generation for sure trade deadline is now about six weeks away give or take what do the Bruins need what do you

Think they’ll be looking for and who’s available I mean it’s it’s going to be tough for the Bruins to be active this year they have in the past couple of years really you know traded first round picks they don’t have their 2024 first round pick because that will go to

Detroit uh after a trade last year uh for Tyler bruzi uh they don’t have a second round pick either so there’s very limited picks to work with and I don’t think they’re going to be wanting to deal guys like uh you know Fabian lysel Mason lorai Matt ptra their top

Prospects so I don’t really know if they’re going to be able to do much Don Sweeney always seems to be able to find a way perhaps he’ll be willing to uh give up some youth in order to add they probably do need another top six uh forward another scoring Winger would be

Nice uh they’re pretty deep on defense but of course you can never have too many we all know injuries pop up uh but probably their number one need would be another scoring Winger they could swing big and look at Elias lindol in Calgary that’s always been a a point of

Conversation one guy that I talked about on the podcast last week as someone who may be available that not a lot of people are talking about is uh the reigning K Smite winner in h Jonathan Marsha so uh the um Vegas golden knights banged up right now they’re kind of

Looking like not really gonna be able to defend Jack eichel out for a while so that unrestricted free agent pending uh would be a fantastic addition I think to uh the Boston Bruins top six uh probably goingon to be difficult to swing that but I’d love to see a guy like that

Bring that experience over and uh and help this team come playoff time you mentioned that management may be reluctant to deal some of the top prospects don’t have a lot of picks anyone on the current roster who may be available to try to add somebody at the trade deadline I mean they’re probably

Not going to flip the the veterans that they have that are impending uh free agents and Kevin shaton Kirk and James Van remdy Jake debrus hopefully will be resigned at some point um probably you’re looking at either Matt grizzli on the blue line or Derek forbort uh Parker

Witherspoon and Mason lorai have stepped up recently and those are guys veteran guys who I think could be moved but easier said than done I know Don Sweeney’s been looking to subtract from the blue line to create some cap space um those are the top two candidates but
