Point streak going on he scored two points in each of the past three games a one-goal one assist effort last night coming off a one-goal one assist effort against Montreal a two assist effort back last Thursday against Colorado in the month of January he’s got four goals eight assists for 12

Points and he’s just on Pace to smash his career highs as I mentioned yesterday uh he’s played in all 46 games for the Bruins he’s on Pace for 30 goals 37 assists which would give him 68 points his previous career high was set 201617 and that was 56 points his

Previous career high in gos was 20 he’s only eclipsed the 20 goal Mark once in his career and the 38 assists that he’s on track for would also tie a career high this guy is you know 31 years old he’s going to be 32 uh in March and he has just been playing

Unreal hockey as of late for the Boston Bruins and you know Jim Montgomery said it’s not just as though he’s deferring to to Pasto he’s not looking for pasta per se he’s taking his shots when it’s there hanging on to pucks not looking to give in that’s the level of confidence

He’s grown into being the team’s number one Center Jim Montgomery added Coyle is someone that helps you win every night even if he’s not generating because of how he plays without the puck but he has this newfound offensive conf confidence and he’s wanting to shoot pucks Coyle for his part said he’s just

Who deserves honorable mention for picking up his game as of late I think he has 10 helpers over his last 14 games uh Brandon Carlo got the secondary assist there and Coyle then got the primary assist on Brad Marshall se’s empty neck goal to seal things with under a minute remaining in regulation

Play uh again just a fantastic effort from Coyle uh who led the team with the two points last night now the Bruins You could argue whether or not they deserve to win this game Jeremy Swan played exceptional especially late making some huge saves at five on five

Winnipeg had a 55% advantage in terms of uh shot attempts in terms of uh shots scoring chances they had the advantage as well High danger chances though Bruin had far more eight versus five at five on five plays so they were getting into those dirty areas and getting some quality opportunities on

Connor heluk High danger chance is in all situations Bruins had a 105 advantage and so you can get all the shot attempts you want you can outshoot the opposition but if you’re not getting in there and getting high danger chances then you know it it doesn’t mean as much

Shots in all situations were low it was kind of a low event game that way 21-21 but 10 of those opportunities were high quality chances the Bruins LED and expected goals 3.3 to 1.59 so while they were out attempted and outshot at five on five they certainly um had the best

Weeks ago right now he’s on Pace for 21 goals 23 assists for 45 total points uh he set a career high last season with 50 in only 64 games so we were kind of hoping that he would keep on track with that kind of production um

Not Point per game production per se but you know more than half a point per game right now he’s picking up the pace he’s been pretty hot lately his numbers are looking a bit more respectable we’d love to see him uh continue to ride that hot hand to get more on a

2550 25 goal 50 point Pace uh but right now firing on all cylinder six goals in the month of January after scoring only two in December and he’s got three assists for nine total points shooting percentage this month is 25% so he is riding a bit of a hot

Streak there perhaps will um come back down but his shooting percentage for the season as a whole is 12.1 which is below his career Mark of 12 8 and a full 2% below last season when he scored the 27 goals in 64 games so you could look at it as though he

Might fall off this current Pace but overall he’s being rewarded finally for uh for his efforts and continuing to play so strong defensively that’s a part of his game that is kind of underrated at this point uh his full ice game the fact that he’s scoring short-handed goals that he’s being you

Know he’s become such a huge part of the Bruins penalty kill uh these are all things to consider when assessing what Jake deus’s next contract might look like and at this point if he is not signed by the Boston Bruins then I’m gonna be a little disappointed

Because I just love how Jake debrusk has developed and how he has grown his overall game yes he streaky yes uh we would love to see him produce like this more consistently but I’ll take these heaters when we can get them and uh it was great to see him contribute once again last

Night with the goal uh that really helped ice things for the Bruins they were up only two one at that point they were on the penalty kill things really could have gone sideways things you know the Jets easily could have uh continued pressing they outshot the Bruins 116 in the final frame Jeremy

Swan like I mentioned made some huge stops and de Brusque scoring that short-handed goal uh really helped ice things for the Boston Bruins in a game that put them three points ahead of the Jets in the overall standings and up to first place overall in terms of point

When it comes to point percentage and that’s just absolutely insane to me absolutely nobody first of all nobody thought last year’s Bruins were going to be in the running for the president’s trophy much less run away with it in a historic regular season all the subtractions from the

Roster questions about Coy Pavo zaka down the middle nobody nobody nobody picked the Boston Bruins to be anywhere near first place in the Atlantic much less overall here in uh 2324 but here they are once again 46 games in a record of 289 sorry 28 eight and nine the only team with

Single digigit regulation losses Winnipeg Vancouver next closest at 11 uh they have 67 points which is one back of Vancouver but they have one fewer game played so they have the point percentage Advantage uh they rank third in goal differential have plus 41 just uh one back of Winnipeg at plus 42

They’re also riding a five-game win streak 61 and three over their last 10 one of the hottest teams in the NHL although Vancouver’s 81 and one Winnipeg still still 8-2 despite last night’s loss and the Oilers of course the hottest Team 13 game winning streak uh and they’re slowly Rising the

Ranks here point percentage they’re a bit further down uh but clearly a team to be reckoned with the other top five teams at the moment well there’s the Colorado Avalanche who are at 670 point percentage with the Bruins just beat as well uh they’re fourth and then there is

A three-way tie for fifth highest point percentage between the Florida Panthers New York Rangers and Dallas Stars all at 652 give the Stars perhaps the advantage there they have a plus 29 goal differential which matches Colorado’s Florida’s at plus 25 the Rangers plus 18 now there are still some

Concerns when it comes to under underlying numbers at five on five for the Bruins they have a 48.5 to shot attempt differential uh which we’d love to see Rise a bit they’re being outshot pretty consistently at five on five a 49% shot differential but when it comes to uh

Expected goals it’s pretty even advantage in terms of scoring chances and high danger attempts they’re above 50% in that way and of course what’s really keeping them uh as one of the top teams is their goaling five on five they rank second in the NHL in terms of save

Percentage the other top teams in save percentage Winnipeg Vancouver if you look at PDO which is adding up shooting percentage and save percentage at five on five and the common belief is that teams will average out around an even 100 by adding shooting percentage save percentage uh the top three teams in

Terms of PDO and you could argue this is a puck luck and it’s going to regress at some point or you can say these teams are have exceptional goal tendance and they’re finding ways to score Vancouver is at 105 with a 12.16 shooting percentage and a 92.86%

So that shooting percentage may be a bit inflated they’re getting solid goal tending though jets are second at 103.1 the Bruins just behind at 102.9 so are we going to say all three of these teams are just uh riding good luck over the course of the season and they’re

Going to to regress we saw that last year with the Bruins right their goal tending well a lot of things went wrong in that Series against Florida but goenda was not their was not their friend if you look at the top teams in terms of shot attempt differential five on five it’s

Carolina Florida La Edmonton and New Jersey uh expected goals Edmonton La Carolina Florida Dallas so none of those top three teams that I mentioned before so it’s going to be really interesting to see if Vancouver Winnipeg Boston can keep it up or if some of these teams that are

Uh not Elite in terms of points and point percentage so far your Edmonton’s Carolina Florida’s up there they perhaps look like the strongest team at the moment based on on Ice performance and the underlying numbers I know a lot of people don’t want to hear that but that’s the reality they’re still a

Very very strong team the Bruins are playing very well but the underlying numbers don’t necessarily scream Stanley Cup Championship at this point because of you know with we all know special teams play a big role in the playoffs but the majority of the game is played

Five on five and the Bruins are giving up more shot attempts and more shots at five on five but they also have a premier goal tending tandem they have top five power play and penalty kill um and they’re getting scoring up and down the lineup so that is also to their

Benefit can’t look at these underlying numbers and kind of project the future it’s just what has happened so far uh but the Bruins without a question are one of the top teams in the NHL this season and um hopefully they can flip the script on last year’s playoff
