Refs making these types of calls but not cross checking or boarding…🤔

    Isn’t there a rule against holding 2 sticks…

Maybe it’s part of this call.

I reffed years ago, too lazy to look it up.

    2 minutes for having fun.

Seriously, this has been done before, with no repercussion. I know that the NHL has its own rules, and the refs have a different level of discernment to make, but at the level I’ve reffed, we’re to make judgements regarding penalties on whether the action was egregious and/or obvious, resulted in a change of possession, disrupted the flow of play, or was reckless/ dangerous. Basically, you can’t call every little stick tap as a slash or reach as a hold, etc. The game is too fast and there’s contact everywhere.

But this? Confusing. *Maybe* it’s blatantly in the rules? Otherwise this checks exactly *none* of those other boxes. Can’t see them putting emphasis on this rule for the sake of the game.

    My only thoughts are either:
    A) The ref committed to calling an infraction and interpreted the rule (however sideways) to stick with it.
    B) Felt like he needed a makeup call and needed any small reason to do so. (Admittedly, in not paying attention to this game, I have no idea what the penalty situation was).

Or he was just grumpy. 💁‍♂️

Is it technically in the rule book? Yeah.

Rules 10.3 and 53.1 in the 2021-22 rulebook (quickest thing I could find online).

Is it kinda stupid, especially when others have done it plenty? You betcha.

You can’t hold the second stick but he never did. I think this is a bad call.

Holy shit that sounded so Canadian. (Two minutes for throwing the stick here)

  7. I don’t remember them adding that rule because I’ve seen this countless times in the NHL

This is a shit call, Sid did this years ago, why would it be a penalty now?

I delivered an instacart order to that dude’s house last November. Nice fella.

    Edited to clarify instacart.
