Before the NHL season began…NHL commissioner Gary Bettman issued a policy that banned the use of themed tape. Even though the ban covered all tapes…the mainstream media only focused on the ban of pride tape. Last week…NHL player Travis Dermott defied the ban and utilized pride tape during a game.
Instead of Gary Bettman enforcing his own policy…the NHL commissioner dissolved his original ruling. We react to Gary Bettman folding to media pressure…and eliminating his ban on pride tape. We discuss the weak leadership of Gary Bettman…and question if it could negatively impact the NHL this season.

The NHL CBA states players can use any color tape. Bettman caved to the union. I think it's the first time Bettman caved to the union.
30 years ago somebody said, “Hockey isn’t a sport, it’s a cult.” I put it in the same category as golf and tennis (both men’s and women’s). A great product with limited appeal. There is money to be made but not NFL tier money. Maybe the NFL will survive despite it’s stupidity in alienating is traditional fans, but the NHL can’t afford to lose any of the handful of fans it has. They haven’t moved the needle in growing the sport in terms of viewers and expansion has only watered down the talent on the ice. The owners typically lock out the players whenever a CBA expires, because they claim the problem with the sport is salaries, which further frustrates fans. I loved the game at one time but couldn’t put up with all the nonsense and left 20 years ago. I am not even tempted to watch highlights anymore. I sure they found someone younger and dumber to take my place, but now they’re taking the nonsense to a new level of stupid and they’re going to lose that guy too.
Totally agree KC. If I were to add anything it would be that not all followers are necessarily weak. As you said, leaders need followers to lead, and some guys may be skilled in other areas, but just not leading for whatever reason. Personally, I don't like the responsibility of leading and am fine with missing out on the potential glory, but I also carry out instructions and support damn near better than anyone. That's what's even worse, we don't even have any strong "right hand men" to check the leader with some common sense. Real talk, I think it's due to a testosterone decline and the numbers are there to back that up.
